Although this audio-recording utility fails to trump some competitors in terms of fancy editing features, it still handles its main job with no problem. The well-designed interface is both easy on the eyes and a snap to use. Clicking the Setting button lets you choose your preferred audio codec and set parameters such as bit rate, sample rate, and VBR compression.

Upon launch, iSound WMA MP3 Recorder Professional prompts you to select from a number of recording sources, including line-in, CD player, and microphone. We also appreciated the ability to adjust the incoming signal level from directly within the application. We especially liked the voice-activation feature, which stops recording after a specified amount of silence and restarts upon detecting any sound, making this application ideal for voice recording or slicing an LP into separate tracks. The scheduling feature will be a boon to fans of Internet radio programs, and the ID3 tag editor is a handy addition.

The newest version of this application lets you split files by entering a stop time. The biggest downside here is the trial version's measly 100-second recording restriction. That complaint aside, we think a wide variety of folks will find a lot to like about iSound WMA MP3 Recorder Professional.
