If two people absolutely shouldn't sit together, you can account for that too. Next create the seating layout, choosing round, square, or rectangular tables as needed. The colorful three-pane interface is a bit busy, but a thoughtful quick-start guide and a 30-minute tutorial are most welcome. The help file even provides rules of thumb for formal seating. The free trial covers up to 30 guests, without a time limit.

All in all, Perfect TablePlan is powerful enough for professionals and straightforward enough for event novices. Would-be Martha Stewarts will take to it like balsamic vinegar to a rocket salad.
