NewsLeecher is a Usenet downloading (leeching) application. It downloads movies, pictures, MP3 files, and software applications, and uses it's inline engine to assemble and decode all the downloads. NewsLeecher takes the best features from NewsBinPro, NewsPro, BNR, GrabIt, and other popular newsreaders and mix them together. As the originator to the NZB format, NewsLeecher has a full support for downloading via NZB files. With the built-in Super Search engine, you can search all the binary Usenet groups at once, for a specific keyword or keystring. NewsLeecher has advanced support for leeching from multiple servers at the same time, and an unlimited number of Usenet servers can be used to download files simultaneously. The built-in automatic multipart posts processing removes the hassle from combining binary post parts one by one. NewsLeecher detects and combine parts by itself.Editor's review of NewsLeecher
This powerful tool is great for downloading and reading posts to Usenet groups. NewsLeecher has a slightly busy interface, with lots of buttons and multiple panes, which might intimidate first-time users. But spending some time checking out the program, which provides pop-up explanations for each button when the mouse rolls over it, will soon relieve any confusion, and will verify that the interface is actually well-organized. (We also found an excellent tutorial at http://www.binaries4all.com/newsleecher/ .) The program quickly grabs (or "leeches") updates from user-specified groups based on user-defined search phrases. However, NewsLeecher doesn't automatically detect servers, so you must enter that information manually while configuring the app. Therefore, this free program is best suited for intermediate and power users. Despite the learning curve, we found this brawny Usenet newsreader to be very satisfactory.

QuadSucker/News is a multithreaded news downloader that downloads four binaries concurrently 4 times faster than single-threaded downloaders. Designed to handle all kinds of binary newsgroups, from picture groups GIF, JPEG to music MP3, movies MPG, M2V, and archives RAR, ZIP, EXE where the attachments can reach hundreds of MB in size. Supports yEnc, uuencode, and base64. Advanced built-in multi-part message assembly. Supports encrypted usenet services. Includes built-in JPEG auto-comment feature and built-in image viewer. Version 4.7 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes. Editor's review of QuadSucker-News
This newsgroup reader offers optimized, five-thread downloading and ease of use, but its filtering features don't quite reach the promised mark. QuadSucker-News has a nicely arranged interface, designed for easy and intuitive use. It offers two modes for downloading posts: the Streaming mode automatically downloads newsgroup posts as they appear, without your intervention; Pick and Choose mode requires your interaction and allows you to specify which files you want downloaded. You can configure whether the program downloads all posts to a single folder or to a series of subfolders categorized according to their newsgroup source. To optimize downloading, QuadSucker-News can download up to five threads simultaneously instead of only a single thread (depending on limitations set by your ISP, you may not be able to use this feature to its fullest). A wizard leads you through setup, which is particularly handy for novices. Our one complaint is about its download filtering. Although you can add filter words during the download process, the filters did not kick in on the fly. Other than that slight drawback, the program works quickly and well. We can easily recommend QuadSucker-News for anyone interested in a user-friendly newsgroup reader.

This is a free RSS client that has several nice features. You can create and delete groups to sort your feeds, and add favorite links. Downloads and parses dozens of feeds in seconds. Best of all links open in a browser built into the program. Version 2 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of CK Rss Client
If you're looking for a straightforward, nicely designed, no-frills RSS reader, look no further than this freeware. The design of the CK RSS Client (which installs as QuickRSS) is based on the familiar three-pane e-mail client interface: The left, vertical pane lists the directory tree of feeds; the upper-right pane lists headlines from a selected feed; and the lower-right pane displays the story source page as a built-in minibrowser. QuickRSS' uncluttered look and feel makes it very easy to comprehend. Tabs appear at the top of the headline pane for each feed we opened, making it very easy to navigate among them. Another favorite of ours was the drop-down list of headlines that built as we opened new ones. It pops up from a small icon at the end of the tabs if you want to select an item you've already viewed. The app responded quickly during our tests, updating feeds and opening selected stories almost as soon as we clicked an item. Also, adding and deleting feeds was very simple to do. Anyone looking for a simple, reliable RSS client will want to try out this free one.

Read, manage and archive your rss, rdf and atom feeds comfortably and easily. With the integrated scheduler and many other configuration features FeedBuster is the tool for professional feed reading. Version 1.0.15 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of Alnera FeedBuster RSS Reader
Easy to use and quick to respond, this program includes everything you'll want in an RSS feed reader, plus some unique extras that are sure to impress.Alnera FeedBuster RSS Reader sets up quickly to display a clean, professionally designed interface that's easy to comprehend and navigate. Its look and feel is based on the familiar e-mail client design: a vertical pane with a directory of feeds, and two horizontal panes at the top listing a feeds headlines, the bottom displaying a selected headlines story. We liked the little tone that sounded when feeds were updated, and a small pane rose in a stately manner from the system tray with a list of updates. The scheduler for configuring updates was simple to use, and adding a feed to the preloaded list was just a matter of adding an URL.The reader performed very quickly in our tests, and we were pleased with its ease of use and uncluttered interface. The little extras show that the publishers put some real effort into making the Feedbuster RSS Reader stand out from the crowd. The demo is generous in its lack of limitations. While there are lots of free RSS readers around, this one isn't too pricey for its ease of use and sleek design.

News Rover is a Usenet newsreader that features a built-in search service for finding files in any Usenet newsgroup. Just enter keywords and News Rover will find matching files in any newsgroup. News Rover is the ideal tool for downloading MP3 music files, JPEG pictures, or full-length movies. News Rover includes a built-in RAR/PAR processor for handing RAR file posts. News Rover also has a JPEG picture gallery, and password protection and file encryption for privacy. Version 11 adds a new screen to display a comprehensive view of the messages queued to be downloaded and currently being downloaded. Using this screen you can boost the download priority of a queued entry or give it a low priority.Editor's review of News Rover
Most newsreaders can execute a few tasks decently. News Rover does everything and does it well. The built-in search feature finds text, music, pictures, and movies. News Rover easily handles encoded binaries and even decompresses RAR archives. The interface, though not the most stylish ever, makes the program very easy to use. The privacy option, which costs an additional $9.90, lets you password-protect newsgroups of your choice and hide your filing folders from other users. It even will encrypt the names of pictures, handy for adult content on a shared computer. In a competitive niche filled with free newsreaders, users who don't mind paying for such software might find News Rover completely satisfies their newsgroup needs.

You can dock the BottomLine to the top or bottom of your screen or drag it around on your desktop, without even worrying about a browser. As long you keep the BottomLine running, you will continue to receive live scores and breaking news, and by clicking on any score or news item, you will be taken directly to the corresponding page on ESPN.com for a full break down.Editor's review of ESPN BottomLine
You don't have to keep a browser window open to stay up-to-date on sports scores, thanks to this stellar newsreader bar. ESPN BottomLine is a tastefully designed bar that scrolls the top sports headlines and scores. You can drag it anywhere on your screen, so it can remain in sight or out of the way of your work. The bar is divided horizontally. The top lists a variety of sports--NFL, MLB, College Football, Golf, and so on--which you can use like tabs to view the category you want. The bottom displays headlines and scores, which scroll upward. Click the displayed story, and ESPN BottomLine opens a browser window with the story at ESPN.com. Clicking the Options icon opens a simple menu that lets you choose the sports categories you want and specify whether ESPN BottomLine displays both headlines and scores or just one for each category. This tool worked great in our tests, but we were disappointed that clicking a story link opened ESPN.com with Internet Explorer instead of using our default browser. But sports-minded users shouldn't let this one flaw deter them from trying this exceptional free tool.

This Usenet reader expertly accesses a variety of media files, in a simple fashion suitable for any level of user. While the interface has a simple and uncluttered design, its simplicity may hide its usability from first-time users. However, the help file and some practice using the app will quickly fill in any user's knowledge gaps. The initial search through newsgroups for those that fit the user's specifications may take several minutes, but Giganews Binary Newsreader functions quickly thereafter. The buttons and menus are clearly set up for simple use to select files, view images or video, read text messages, or listen to audio. The app makes saving selected files to a separate folder very convenient. The occasional appearance of the nag screen (to encourage registering the app) is a bit disconcerting, but not so distracting that the tool isn't useful. All Usenet newsreaders have their quirks, and some suit users to differing degrees. Giganews Binary Newsreader offers users of any level a robust and reliable tool for accessing a variety of file types according to the user's specifications.

Usenet Explorer is a multi server, multi windows, multitasking newsreader for text and binaries. A powerful binary downloader, without compromising support for text. Supports virtual groups and grouping binary posts into collections. Full download automation capabilities. Fast and reliable. Includes comprehensive Usenet binary indexing service. Version 1.9.5 adds ability for users to group headers into custom collections.Editor's review of Usenet Explorer
Tired of the run-of-the-mill newsreaders? Try this robust reader, but novices should keep their distance. Interfaces based on the typical friendly and ubiquitous e-mail client are usually a snap to learn. However, Usenet Explorer offers one of the most confusing arrays of buttons we've seen on such an interface. Novices and perhaps even those with more Usenet newsreader experience will probably be intimidated by all the icons and check boxes. Fortunately, the publisher provides a great tutorial online, with step-by-step instructions that clear up all the mystery; we give high marks for that. Once we mastered the tutorial, Usenet Explorer performed quickly and smoothly. It led us through connecting to our ISP's news server, and selecting (and filtering) groups and downloading headers was a simple matter. This app is very robust and reliable, but the appearance may drive away potential users. The 15-day trial limit is a little brief, and the $35 price tag seems a bit steep. Still, this feature-full newsreader is worth trying if you're looking for a new Usenet reader.

Forte Agent is a multi-server newsreader. Agent is also an excellent multiple POP and SMTP e-mail client. This high level of integration between Usenet news and POP e-mail separates Agent from all other communication products. Whether you are downloading binaries or responding to e-mail, Agent provides you with all the right features. Has HTML support, image preview, and crosspost improvements. Version 4.2/32.1118 includes support for NZB files.Editor's review of Forte Agent
Once you get past the confusion caused by the multipaned interface, this multiserver newsgroup reader offers plenty of robust features for reading posts and sending and reading e-mails. The download was a bit slow for our tastes, but the app installed quickly and offers a wizard-like setup feature to help any level user configure its connections. Forte Agent's interface presents a number of panes that may stymie novices, but the Help guide is thorough and includes a tutorial on configuring the interface according to user preferences. In our tests, Forte Agent downloaded groups and headers quickly. Selecting posts to read was simple, although we found that retrieving a selected message was a bit clunky. Forte Agent is a passable e-mail client, though it offers no more bells and whistles than other dedicated e-mail programs. After you figure things out, this app is a worthwhile choice for anyone interested in a full-featured newsgroup reader.

NewsWolf is a tool that searches for public access news servers in specific news group. On selecting a newsgroup of interest, NewsWolf will directly connect to your default news server and begin importing the selected newsgroup's article headers. The program will expand news server names from downloaded article headers and check them automatically. The result lists of news servers include their details and whether they accept non-member postings. This program is an excellent companion to your newsreader, greatly extending the speed and access to free newsgroups. Version 1.41 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of NewsWolf
Designed to complement your Usenet newsreader by searching out public-access news servers, this tool offers real usefulness only to those who post to newsgroups frequently throughout the day.NewsWolf's interface has several buttons and multiple panes; the resulting design is slightly cluttered and confusing. Once you enter your ISP's news server, NewsWolf downloads and displays its list of newsgroups. The on-the-fly filtering feature worked well. After we specified newsgroups of interest, the tool searched for free news servers and determined which ones didn't require authentication after making a successful connection. It worked quickly, but the process of working through the entire list of servers required a long wait.Despite the publisher's claims, the app didn't download article headers from our selected newsgroups. A help guide would be a welcome addition to this free program. Incessant posters to Usenet groups and experienced users may find NewsWolf a handy addition to their newsreader tool pack, but novices will be left confused.

BinaryVortex downloads files from Usenet Newsgroups. It is optimized for downloading images, and includes both thumbnail and full-screen image viewers. Movies, sound files, applications, and other types of files may be downloaded as well. BinaryVortex is designed to be very easy to use, and is well suited for novice users. Supports yEnc, uuencode, and mime. Includes built-in kill list feature to control spam. Built-in support for encrypted usenet services. Version 3.9 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes. Editor's review of Binary Vortex
This free tool for grabbing files from Usenet newsgroup is supposedly optimized for downloading images, but it has one doozy of a drawback: it doesn't let you preview images before it grabs them.Binary Vortex sports a rather bland interface based on Windows-style tabbed dialog boxes, and it may not be simple to comprehend for novice users. (Visiting the help manual is nearly a requirement for using this tool.) The search feature is very effective for locating Usenet groups from which to grab images. The downloading process performs quickly, even for large files. However, Binary Vortex doesn't allow you to preview images. It simply starts downloading, revealing the current image in a pane of the Download tab as it's being saved. You can view downloaded images as a slide show in a separate viewer than opens for that purpose. Binary Vortex works well enough to suit anyone interested in downloading image files posted to Usenet groups, but being unable to preview images before downloading them is a limitation most users won't appreciate.

Wow. A feed reader, an HTML scraper, and an information manager rolled into one, Newzie is so packed with features you almost expect it to go nuclear. Newzie displays recently updated feeds in a cleverly color-coded list, and can combine them into filtered virtual channels. It also can monitor HTML changes in sites that don t publish in RSS. In addition, there s a news ticker, a powerful clean-up tool, and support for the popular Bloglines Web aggregator. And that s just scratching the surface. Unfortunately, Newzie s interface is a complicated jumble of toolbars that makes even simple operations frustrating. This is a beta release, so some glitches are inevitable. Also, the installer may not work on systems other than Windows XP. For everyone else, another installer is available on the publisher s Web site. Right now, Newzie is only fit for RSS junkies, but we re eager to see how this powerhouse program evolves.

RSSvp Reader is a customized software application which allows you to pull news feeds directly from Web sites onto your desktop. Podcasting capabilities allow you to subscribe to your favorite radio shows.Editor's review of RSSvp News Reader
There are many RSS feed readers in the world, and we find it hard to rev up enthusiasm for another newsreader that's based its look and feel on the typical e-mail client interface, as if Outlook were the epitome of user-friendly design. RSSvp News Reader offers nothing new or unusual to throw experienced users for a loop, although the podcasting capabilities are handy for grabbing audiocasts and tunes. On the other hand, this free tool is a great introduction to reading RSS feeds for novices, simply because of its familiar design and ease of use. Navigating the three-paned interface is simple, with a directory tree of feed names in the vertical left pane, hyperlinked headlines from the specified feed in the upper-left pane, and the headlined story displayed in the bottom-left pane. Setting up preferences and adding feeds was easily accomplished from the File menu in our tests, and RSSvp News Reader performed with no glitches during our assessments. This newsreader offered no real surprises or delights, but novices will find it handy to use and easy to master. Experienced users will want something more robust, however, and we suggest they search elsewhere.

ILook also gives you lightning fast access to more than 200 radio stations, providing uninterrupted entertainment, news, sports, and classical music.Editor's review of iLook
News junkies can stay on top of the news through the Web or Net radio with this newsreader. iLook has a unobtrusive, vertical window that lists options depending on the function you choose: newsreader headlines, Net radio stations, or search engines. Selecting newsfeed sources from a preloaded list was easy to do in our tests, and we were able to specify the time interval for updates. Clicking a headline quickly opened the story at its source site with our default browser. However, although adding RSS feeds from unlisted sources was simple to perform, the feed headlines from at least one source never appeared. (While the source site may have been the cause, iLook didn't alert us to any problems in retrieving the news.) Available Net radio stations include a variety of international sources, so nearly every taste for news or music should be satisfied. Likewise, the list of search engines includes German as well as the most popular English sites, although the program offers no way of adding other engines. iLook is free and easy to use, so any level of user will find it a handy little addition to their bag of Internet tools.

TimelyWeb helps you track updates of Web pages and FTP resources. Both static and dynamically generated resources can be monitored. If the resource is protected, TimelyWeb will login automatically. You can vary check interval from minutes to months, and secify it individually for every page or resource. TimelyWeb can also be used to monitor availability of the site. When the site is not available for any reason, you are immediately notified. Version 4.2 build 215 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of EldoS TimelyWeb
Don't be discouraged by this application's initially daunting interface. TimelyWeb makes it much easier to monitor your favorite sites for changes than it seems to at first. It automatically detects changes to user-specified Web links. Its structured GUI is similar to that of a Windows application, and it has a multitude of options to tailor the program to your needs. You'll like how TimelyWeb allows you to make configurations per link as opposed to one sweeping determination. You can monitor numerous sites, each with its own individual schedule, although the trial limits you to 20 links. TimelyWeb scans and automatically downloads updates, or you can have the program notify you through e-mail, MSN Messenger, or ICQ when a monitored site changes. The application performs immediate checks as well, and you can get update information without having to visit the site. We liked the at-a-glance stats displayed in a sidebar so you can see when selected links were modified, unreachable, dead, etc., and how often each happened. Multiple options and windows to get the program set up may appear overwhelming to first-time users, but testing proves otherwise. You won't waste time visiting unchanged pages again with this handy little program.

Several newsgroups can be joined into folders or opened in a single view; several servers can be put into a subset to meet Usenet providers' connection limits. yEnc is fully supported. Posting has been extended to multiple servers and newsgroups can be associated with posting servers and identities. There is support for NZB files.Version 3.8 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of NewsPro
This program helps you join Usenet, a worldwide-distributed discussion system. Although many find Usenet old-fashioned, it has accumulated a huge array of articles on all kinds of subjects. NewsPro's conservative interface lets you browse messages with comfort. The context menu lets you invoke common newsgroup operations such as Download, Save Attachments, and Mark as Read. Unlike many of its competitors, NewsPro displays articles from all news servers for a particular newsgroup in a single list. Every newsgroup can be viewed simultaneously in several ways, such as one view that shows messages with bodies and another that shows messages by a particular author. It displays JPEG images automatically, and other types of attachments appear as icons, opened with a double-click. Dial-up surfers will appreciate the automatic reconnection. NewsPro will satisfy both novices and advanced users.

If you like news tickers, you'll find this RSS reader hard to beat. During installation, you choose whether to place Guru News Ticker in your IE toolbar or in the taskbar at the bottom of your desktop. From there, you can select what type of headlines you want. You can click a passing headline to open a browser window that shows the story, or you can mouse over the headline for a small and scrollable drop-down window. We encountered a few script errors while running the program but nothing that made it quit or freeze. We liked the instant access to news items, the configurable fonts and colors, the feed options for different types of news, and the ability to add our own RSS feeds. The 20-day demo limitation is a bit short for our tastes but still gives you enough time to check out the program. If you want headlines scrolling past your work space or browser window all day, Guru News Ticker provides flexibility in both story options and appearance.

Other features include yEnc encoding support, corrupt-post detection, per-server configurations including connection limits and download limits, NZB and BNS message ID file support, and advanced connection management.Editor's review of NewsBin Pro
Primarily, this program automates the downloading of binary files and news headers from Usenet. Its interface is much more attractive and easy to use than most Usenet programs. NewsBin Pro monitors specified groups, decodes all the binaries, and copies them into a directory. It automatically displays thumbnails of downloaded images.NewsBin downloads headers from all active servers across up to eight connections. All files are spooled, not just multipart ones, which helps you eliminate junk. The program downloads, decodes, and reassembles any file, including movies, music, pictures, and even software. EasyDeskTicker is an RSS ticker for the desktop. Very easy to use. News are freely configurable. One or more feeds are read continuously. Line position and size, scrollspeed, colors and fonts can be set. Quick-configure-buttons to set it to the top or bottom of the screen. It stays always on top of other windows. This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.Editor's review of EasyDeskTicker
As far as newsreaders go, EasyDeskTicker is nothing special in terms of extras. However, it works well and its simple design will appeal to novice users. At the start, a resizable, floating ticker bar appears on your desktop. A help menu isn't included, but adding/deleting feeds was a piece of cake. Clicking a headline immediately brings up a window that includes the headline's title, source, read, and article link. From that same window, you can navigate between headlines without skipping a beat. There are a lot of customization features available with EasyDeskTicker, but we found many of them were more for kicks than substance. We would have liked to see an option to place the ticker on our taskbar or the option of hiding the ticker using a hot-key combo. While it won't blow newsreader veterans away, EasyDeskTicker is a good choice for those new to RSS feeds.

GrabIt is a newsgrabber that enables you to use Usenet without downloading headers. Its features include fast selecting, downloading, and decoding of binary attachments; a familiar-looking user interface; and advanced error checking while downloading. Download and decode multiple articles at once. Other features include filters for showing/hiding downloaded or deleted articles, a search option for groups and articles, and a pause function to free bandwidth.Version 1.62 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of GrabIt
GrabIt helps you collect Usenet posts and binary files as groups instead of one by one. The program installs quickly. At startup, GrabIt asks you to enter a default newsgroup, which you can change later. After downloading posts you can sort them by category, name, or date. You can automatically download new articles every so often and decode them either right at downloading or after. The program also checks spelling. GrabIt shows you clearly at what speed the articles are downloading, how many are already downloaded, and how much time it will take to grab the rest of them. The biggest problem with the software is its complicated interface, which is overstuffed with buttons and notes. While the interface leaves something to be desired, the program's output looks good.

Newsgroup Commander is a fast way to find any information you're looking for in news group archives. The program allows the fastest messages downloading from selected newsgroups. Newsgroup Commander extracts information from newsgroups using multiple include/exclude keyword filters based on article contents and subjects. You can use your selected keywords to scan the target audience and only return the information you are interested in. Version 8.3 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of Newsgroup Commander
This newsgroup reader is well-designed and easy to use, but testing revealed some problems that keep us from recommending it.Newsgroup Commander downloads and installs quickly. Its interface is nicely designed, but uncluttered and easy to comprehend for novice newsreader users. Buttons are large and labeled with simple commands, so the lack of a help feature isn't really a drawback. (For those who may need some help, a handy tutorial is available at http://www.internet-soft.com/nntp/index.htm.)While many newsreaders require users to supply only a news server name at setup, Newsgroup Commander requires both a news server name and an NNTP Host name, an additional step that may prove a stumbling block for some novice users. Despite its visual appeal and ease of use, the program hung up and ceased responding during every one of our tests, even after multiple reinstalls and launches.Although Newsgroup Commander is free and looks good, its failure to perform after downloading the list of available newsgroups makes us unable to recommend it.

Scrolling news ticker for your desktop. View news via your choice of category or keyword. Incorporates millions of continuously updated news articles from thousands of sources. Easily customize the speed and color of the ticker or have multiple tickers displayed, each with different content, speeds, and colors. Import any RSS or Atom feed: simply enter the URL to view. Version 3.05 features Blog with ENewsBlog: easily add any headline to your blog; Article Summaries: view summaries and related information; Games: play free games on EnewsBar; more categories, new sources: expanding news coverage.Editor's review of ENewsBar
In the modern blog-heavy, instant-news world, a good RSS reader is welcome on almost every desktop. ENewsBar is aimed at computer users who want the latest news without having to take the trouble to configure a full-blown reader. Once installed, the software creates a ticker at the top of the computer screen on which news headlines scroll past, a little like a CNN TV news screen. When a user hovers the mouse over the ticker, the headlines freeze, and actually clicking a headline pops up a Web browser window with the full article text. The application comes with more than a hundred preset news channels, but users can add just a single new custom feed, making it impractical for people who are heavy blog readers. It also uses a fairly large chunk of system memory to operate. In all, ENewsBar makes a good choice for computer users simply looking to have the latest news at their fingertips, but those who are looking to customize their info-gathering experience more deeply should probably look elsewhere.

As an excellent newspapers reader provided by Xiaoa Tech., ABOT News Reader allows you to read more 2000 well-known publications electronic version of newspapers directly. You will trouble nothing about spending money and buying newspaper with this tool. On the other hand, you can get the latest news all over the world at home if you computer is connected to the Internet.Note: Please contact the developer for pricing information.Editor's review of Abot News Reader
Abot News Reader touts its more than 2,000 newspaper links, but unless you're fluent in Chinese, you'll miss out on most of its features. At the start of the program, a nag screen asks you to register and buy the product, but you'll be able to try the product by clicking OK. The interface is very plain with a tree menu on the left listing "National," "World," and "American State" newspapers and an expandable screen on the right for viewing them. It comes with three different skins, none of which are very attractive or noticeably different from each other. All the links that we selected during our tests loaded very fast and we were able to view our desired newspapers, but the American State links displayed sites in Chinese. There's a Favorites folder, but you'll have to choose from the preloaded links as you can't add newspapers to the list. A help menu is included, but it takes you to the publisher's site and offers no real help. Additionally, our IE home page was changed without our permission and the program didn't block any pop-up ads. It should be no surprise then that we can't recommend this program as a viable newsreader.

This software downloads RSS feeds from any Web sites and then reads them using Text-to-Speech and shows the feeds on good-looking black screen. After installation the program will use default computer's voice. There are many high quality voices across multiple languages that can be used with the gadget (they must be SAPI 5 compatible).Editor's review of RSS To Speech
RSS To Speech downloads feeds and reads them aloud, proving that what's good in theory isn't always good in practice. As far as an interface is concerned, there's not much to this newsreader. A superplain black box appears on your desktop that can be moved anywhere you like. As soon as you activate the newsreader, a very choppy voice begins to read the headlines. After about the fourth headline, we had to turn it off because it was so distracting and, well, annoying. Through the Options menu (a right-click away), we were able to change the volume and speed of the voice as well as how often we wanted to reload the feeds. You can add your own feeds to the reader, but you have to register and purchase the product before you can perform this function. Supposedly, more functionality, including additional voice options, is offered with registration. The strict trial limitation certainly prevents users from testing this product's full potential. It's a shame, because RSS To Speech has the makings of a great program for visually impaired users. As is, users should bypass this newsreader for one with more available options.

The BigBlogZoo is a rich source of current categorized information from all over the world. Using the DMOZ Classification Schema, the BigBlogZoo is one of the world's first semantic web browsers. You can also save podcasts in pdf documents and send them to your friends. To transform RSS using XSLT try MediaMiner.Version 1.0.8 features support for podcasts, better hits highlighting, spidering of search results and proxy servers.Editor's review of BigBlogZoo
This news and blog aggregator lives up to its name by offering a huge selection of feeds, but you'll need a map to navigate this zoo. BigBlogZoo's interface is so user-unfriendly that we had a difficult time finding our way around. It takes over your entire screen, so there's no hiding this program from your boss. The tree menu houses more than 70,000 newsfeeds and blogs, all organized into channels. We found ourselves doing more clicking than we would have liked to drill down to a link. Once we drilled down, selecting a link did pull up the corresponding site very quickly. We liked the keyword search, which pulled related links and promptly placed them in the Bookmarks folder. What we didn't like is the error message we got when we tried to add a new channel to the list. This program is a great source for all the latest blogs, and it promises some great features. Unfortunately, it's too much of a hassle trying to figure out how to get those features to work. If you're looking for a tool to help manage your blogs and newsfeeds, look for one that's easier to navigate.
