Block chat or web site activities and intercept the user if specific keywords (of your choice) are encountered. Also capable of monitoring user activities. Version 1.6 adds schedule specific times to block programs, and two minute user logoff warning.Editor's review of Advanced Parental Control This powerhouse application gives parents complete control over computer activity. Advanced Parental Control's innovative user interface allows you to set up PC monitoring, restrictions, and scheduling per user. The program automatically lists the accounts on your machine and captures screenshots, keystrokes, programs, and URLs visited and organizes each by user name.Simply select a child's name you want to check on and click the organizational button to see his or her individual screen captures, opened applications, launched URLs, and more. We also like the individual restrictions given: you can allow or block specific URLs for one child while granting access to another, and the same goes for keyword blocks. Access restrictions to system areas such as network settings and connections, the Control Panel, and even certain drives are applicable, again by user. A schedule may be set for computer time and another schedule is given for Internet access to keep surfing off-limits during homework time.Parents will undoubtedly appreciate this 14-day trial program's tailored controls, effectiveness, and organizational output.

Power Spy software secretly monitors and records all activities on your computer. It records all keystrokes typed, MSN Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, ICQ, AIM/AOL, Yahoo Messenger, Windows Messenger and Skype's chat text, Web sites visited, e-mails read, documents opened, windows opened, clipboard activities, passwords typed, and applications executed. It even takes screen snapshots every X seconds and playback like a surveillance camera. Such monitoring acts so stealthily that the user won't know of its existence. However, it is easy for you to unhide its main program Control Panel with a custom hotkey, view the records directly from the CP, or receive all log reports via a custom e-mail or FTP. The software can be password-protected to prevent others from terminating or uninstalling it. It is perfect for catching cheaters, monitoring employees, children and spouses, and even investigating crimes. Version 6.10 improves keylogger function and report format.Editor's review of Power Spy Software 2007 It wont take Sherlock Holmes to find out what users have been up to on your computer using this straightforward PC-monitoring software. Power Spy 2006 records keyloggers, logs URLs of Web sites visited, captures screenshots and opened applications and can conveniently send log reports to your e-mail. Instant messages from most of the popular messenger applications such as Yahoo, AOL, ICQ, and Skype are quickly logged and stamped by date and time, as are Web sites visited. For invisibility, the program can operate in stealth mode only to be called out of hiding by a hotkey combination. The pleasant interface is password-protected and can be set to run at system startup. Power Spy 2006 employs a reminder screen to purchase the product, so you won't want to test the trial version on anyone. Bottom line is that anyone looking for a comprehensive set of surveillance tools should give this one a try.

Secure Office is an affordable and compact monitoring solution, designed for local networks. It captures keystrokes typed Websites visited, chats from all popular instant messengers and makes screenshots. All user logs are stored on the admin's PC. You can view all user logs using any Web browser from anywhere. The online access to the logs can be protected with a password.Editor's review of BlazingTools Secure Office BlazingTools Secure Office is a simple, small network spy application for the novice and intermediate-level manager. BlazingTools Secure Office's interface is a bit cartoon-like for an office environment, but the data is clearly presented, and most users won't need to read the manual. Installing this application is a quick two-step process. After installing the server, you use it to easily create a client installation package. Secure Office includes some welcome functions. You can choose the installation file name and have it automatically uninstall after a set number of days. The client package is quickly installed and immediately starts reporting to the server. This application accurately monitors chats, Web sites visited, and includes a basic keylogger and screen grabber. Though the keylogger doesn't also track mouse movements, it is easy to gauge a client's movements in conjunction with the screenshots. Secure Office's Web interface is basic, but includes a helpful calendar to track client usage by date. Basic statistical data is generated in real time for both users and client machines. While screen grabs are saved to the server machine, user-readable logs are not stored separately from the Web interface. Office managers looking to spy on employee Web use, chats, and basic key presses would do well to give this application its full 14-day trial. They might decide this basic spy tool fills their need for information.

Network and System Administrators, along with your Power Users, represent not only valuable members of your team, but in the eyes of attackers they also represent prime targets. Their workstations and notebook systems usually contain immense amounts of valuable data and may even hold keys to the kingdom like passwords, certificates and other confidential network details. HPPE empowers these technical users to change their systems from attacker target to security sensor. Using HoneyPoint technology, they can configure their systems to capture attackers targeting them and take immediate action to trace, analyze and mitigate the threats. Easy to use, ultra-configurable, and highly effective HPPE is a Power User's best friend. Editor's review of HoneyPoint Personal Edition Make it easier to detect intrusions into your system with this security tool. HoneyPoint Personal Edition's standard Windows dialog-style interface literally takes seconds to decipher. System administrators and coffeehouse Wi-Fi users alike will appreciate the ease of using this application. Through this application, you easily set up faux Web and e-mail services. Then sit back and HoneyPoint PE logs the attempts to peek into your system. Using the logged IP and port attempt log, the savvy user can tweak and tune her firewall. The supplied information also is useful to analyze internal network Trojans searching for new hosts. Now the bad news; during our tests HoneyPoint PE failed to log internal attempts to access our system. A quick read of the help file reveals no limitations, save only a 15-minute active session before HoneyPoint closes. All users would have appreciated default Web page and UDP port codes. Nevertheless, this security tool could be helpful to select users willing to take a chance on the registered version.

Professional Keylogger / Screenlogger. Records all requested user activity to include keylogging and screenlogging. Many other useful features consist of emailing logs, watching for keywords, log searching, and adjusting ram/disk usage per user. Version 1.8.9.31 fixes glitch for Screen Log files not being removed to allocated disk space.Editor's review of GPCS 2007 With this very easy-to-set-up application, you can effectively spy on your system while you're away.GPCS 2007's interface is chock-full of check boxes, tabs, and simple option dialogs. Still, you'll be up and spying in no time. The key is program control, and you have it with GPCS. The standard features are here: keylogging and screen captures. You can set the precise number of keystrokes and screen captures to save to your log. When your log fills, it is immediately sent to a selected e-mail address. GPCS uses its own SMTP gateway to send the e-mail, saving you the trouble of leaving open your e-mail program. The images are full-screen or active-window. Screen capture can be easily set to grab every selected number of keystrokes. We really haven't found a spy program so easy to set up; novice users probably won't even bother with the help file. You can set the program to label your e-mail hot when the keylogger captures your supplied words or phrases. The demo has slight limitations and displays a banner at all times at the bottom of your screen, which likely will tip off those using your machine. Also, GPCS uses more memory than Firefox, the process is evident in Task Manager, and we could see a slight system slowdown during the trial. Nevertheless, any users determined to watch their system's other users should give this spy tool a test.

MKey Logger allows you to silently monitor a computer user's keystrokes. MKey Logger also takes screenshots of the visible display (what is shown on the monitor), to give you a more comprehensive overview of the windows being monitored. The included documentation explains how to configure MKey Logger. You can change how often screenshots are taken, the compression of the screenshot images, change the task manager display name (defaults to Regsvc32), and other options. The trial version installs Start Menu items, and has a ten second nag screen when MKey Logger is launched. The full version of MKey Logger will not install any Start Menu items.Editor's review of MKey Logger This simple keylogger also saves screenshots, but it is difficult to stop. MKey Logger has no interface; instead, all settings are configured in a text file. Load this application properly and you'll have no idea it exists. It hides itself as a Windows Regsvc32.exe file. Most users wouldn't suspect the Regsvc32.dll file is actually a log of all keystrokes and button pushes. Installation is simple, but the documentation confusingly states that the program launches itself. Users must execute the program file to start logging keys. Once enabled, MKey Logger records all key and button presses and saves a screenshot every five seconds. You can easily change the screenshot interval and log file name and folder in MKey Logger's text-based configuration file. What doesn't work is the complicated disable-key combination. Pressing Ctrl-F5-F7-Space never worked for our testers. We had to kill the program by stopping the Regsvc32 process in Task Manager. Also, the screenshots aren't encrypted and an inquisitive user might notice the multiple JPEG files filling up the hard drive. The 15-day demo logs files for a mere five minutes before automatically disabling logging. Still, privacy-minded administrators will appreciate the simplicity of this keylogger and will look past its few quirks.

K9 Web Protection is easy-to-use Parental Control and Internet filtering software that helps parents protect their children online. K9 Web Protection has the ability to block adult, porn and other offensive content, prevent spyware infections, and monitor visited sites on any Internet access connection (AOL, MSN, Yahoo, Earthlink). Based on commercial-grade Web filtering controls from Blue Coat Systems, K9 Web Protection is unique among content filters and it is free for home use. K9 can be configured as a porn blocker, a spyware stopper, a gambling filter or various other configurations based on our over 55 Web categories. Version 3.2.36 includes the social networking category, Windows Vista compatibility, and improved administration tools.Editor's review of K9 Web Protection Take control of your Web filter For a free Internet filter, K9 Web Blocker does its job well, providing a broad collection of options for customizing your remote Web supervision needs. To run the program, you must register on the Web site to get the free activation code. The control panel is accessible only through the Internet. Uninstalling requires removing the app from the Task Manager, then using its password to delete it from the Windows Control Panel, and finally, rebooting. Because the password gets sent to the e-mail account of the person who registered the program, it's possible that an enterprising user could disable K9 on a shared computer. Despite those drawbacks, K9 comes with a handful or so of predesigned filters and an option to customize. With more than 50 categories for organizing Web sites, and the keyword-free proprietary K9 rating system, the Web monitoring and blocking aspects of the software functioned well. K9 also has categories for blocking sites that have been detected as potential malware threats. Equally impressive, and a little bit scary, was the log that detailed not just blocked Web sites but also every Web site visited. K9 Web Blocker is a good, free program for those who are concerned solely with Web surfing, but the lack of a chatware filter leaves some holes for predation.

Golden Eye is designed to monitor and record all the activity on your computer. You can track your children, your spouse, and your employees. With its bulit-in spy components, it can record keystrokes, visited Web sites, window titles, and screenshots. Golden Eye works like a surveillance camera pointed directly at your computer monitor, monitoring and recording anything anybody does on your computer, and storing this in a secure area for later review. With the full detail and searchable interactive report and HTML report provided by Golden Eye, you easily can know how your computer is being used or what is being done on your computer.Editor's review of Golden Eye More a private investigator than a corporate supersleuth, Golden Eye is a capable, easy-to-use system spy. It tracks almost everything that happens on a PC, including keystrokes, clipboard contents, visited Web sites, launched programs, viewed documents, and instant messages. It also can take screenshots at set intervals. Importantly, it protects itself quite well against smart users. It can't be seen in Task Manager or the Add/Remove Programs control panel, and it requires a password to uninstall or change settings. The tabbed interface is well organized, but we found the cramped display inconvenient for viewing data. Luckily, Golden Eye can dump reports to HTML. However, it can't send reports via e-mail or FTP, making it useful mainly to homes and small businesses.

KidShieldUSA is filtering software designed to provide Internet child safety. This program keeps track and checks the content of every Web page the child browses through in the Internet Explorer. If the program finds some obscene content (characteristic of pornography, violence, religious sects), KidShieldUSA will immediately block viewing such pages. KidShieldUSA is a whole software package that is integrated in Internet Explorer and consists of some controlling functions. Such as content filter, porn blocker, parental control, URL blocking, Internet access blocking. Each of these functions forms an obstacle in the way of obscene information from the Internet. And before your child sees any page, it is checked by all those functions.Editor's review of KidShieldUSA KidShieldUSA effectively protects your children from surfing into suspicious territory on the Web, although it's by no means secretive in its approach. The application sets up several organized options along its tabbed UI to access and determine forbidden words, pop-up blocking, time restrictions, and whitelists. The forbidden-words list comes with several categorized words--from sexually explicit terms to drugs and gambling--and you'll be able to add your own words. Signage appears when sites containing these words are happened upon. KidShieldUSA works with Internet Explorer but offers blocking for other browsers with strict access only given to "super users," i.e., you. The program can be deactivated using a hot key and gives network settings that can mimic what you've set up on the main PC. We like the logs of sites visited that can be e-mailed to you. Unfortunately, KidShieldUSA doesn't operate in stealth mode, so everyone will know you're watching. A decent deterrent for uncouth surf habits, this 15-day trial is a great surveillance tool for parents.

BLOCK Home is a parental content filter with security features. With BLOCK Home access to adult content and other unwanted material can be denied to insure safer Internet. P2P file-sharing software usage and instant messaging can be blocked. Filter stops also spyware and adware that installs through the browser. Fast installation and very easy to use. Software is fully customizable. Version 2.1 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of Block Home This top-notch parental control application impressively blocks and monitors online activity. Block Home's interface is clear-cut and easy to configure. You'll quickly be able to filter and block all access to Web sites featuring adult content. Specific URLs you deem unfit may be added to a blacklist, and sites that are appropriate but may contain words the software would otherwise block can be placed on a whitelist. For ultimate control, Block Home's limited-usage feature only allows kids to visit the specific URLs on that list. This app's blocking abilities don't stop there; you can thwart P2P file sharing, instant messages, spyware, and adware. Besides its Web barriers, we like that it also features an online monitor that logs every site visited including the date and time. Naturally, the program is secured with password protection to prevent uninstallation, shutdown, and settings changes. Parents can rest easy while impressionable minds surf the Web using this effective application.

Anti-piracy program for private use. The program makes sure that no illegal files or program will be downloaded to or saved on your computer. The program is a private version of our business software and allows you to scan your computer for illegal music and media files; scan your computer for file-sharing programs; limit the access to certain sites from your computer; create automatic scans of your computer; and clean out your computer for illegal music, movies, and other media files.Editor's review of Softdetect Network Scanner This software aims to find and eliminate P2P programs and media files from your system, but some claims were not proven during tests. Softdetect Pirate Protection Scanner starts well, with a wizard that guides you through the process of performing a full-system scan. You have no way to choose which drives to scan; it's all or nothing. No problems occurred while scanning, but the process is long and it greatly slowed our test machines. You'll like the scheduler function to perform unmonitored scans at intervals you specify. You're able to easily choose which programs or media files to keep or remove. Removed files are sent to Quarantine, where you can restore or permanently delete them from your system.System administrators will appreciate that the program is password-protected and can only be uninstalled through the interface. To speed searches, you can specify that Softdetect Pirate Protection Scanner look only for P2P programs or only media files. The help file is PDF-based and contains no information about which P2P programs are targeted. The publisher claims the application restricts users from launching certain Web sites, though our testers couldn't verify that feature. Anyone concerned with keeping file-sharing software off their PC will benefit from this easy-to-use freeware program.

Configure SSPro's email features to send logged data and screen snapshots offsite for remote viewing. SSPro's built-in pornographic keyword features allow users to block and/or be notified when objectionable content is encountered. Want to define your own keywords? Extremely easy to setup and use, SSPro supports most chat programs and browsers including AIM, AOL, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, GoogleTalk, IE, Netscape, Firefox and is Vista compatible.Version 4.8 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of System Surveillance Pro This snooping utility provides almost all the features essential for monitoring a PC, but we were especially impressed with its stealthiness. System Surveillance Pro logs keystrokes, IM chats, applications used, and Web sites visited, and can capture screenshots at periodic intervals. The interface makes it easy to locate any log file you need to access. System Surveillance Pro can block Web sites via URLs or detected keywords, and includes a scheduler in case you don't need to monitor PC usage at all times. Like most respectable spying applications, it will send you e-mail reports so you can keep an eye on your computer from a remote location. We doubt even the cleverest users will be able to detect the program while it's running or uninstall it. To open its control panel, you must use the Start menu's Run command, and even if someone finds the application, they'll still need your password to disable it. The utility can't be stopped via the Task Manager, nor uninstalled through the Control Panel or the Program Files folder. The seven-day trial period is too short for our tastes, but since System Surveillance Pro provides effective protection against even savvy folks, we still think it's a good find.

Each category filter is created by applying machine learning techniques such as Bayesian text classification, as well as, probability and statistics. These methods allow for real-time content analysis, thus creating truly dynamic category filters. The program supports the optional filtering of pornography, gambling, weapons, tobacco, cigarettes, and adult content. It includes a password override capability. Supports IE only. Version 2.1.1 added new filter category and improved the UI.Editor's review of DeriveIt's Web Content Filter DeriveIt's is a simple but effective parental filtering application only for Internet Explorer. With a customizable white list and blacklist, password controls, and a tiny footprint, the 60-day trial is a generous amount of time to give the app a chance. The category filters run the gamut from gambling to pornography, but can also be configured to games or just about any other genre you might want to block. Although the white list allows for legitimate sites to go through, DeriveIt's is aggressive enough to block Google searches for banned topics. Occasionally, we noticed a bit of lag time, when a banned site began to load before the "blocked" message loaded in its stead. Its not inconceivable that some banned content could be seen during the 5- or 10-second interim. The interface is very unobtrusive, but only accessible from within the Tools menu. Simply laid out, with no bells or whistles, it's easy if not engaging to change program settings. We'd like to see support for Firefox and Opera in future editions, but DeriveIt's is an effective piece of parental controlware.

WatchDog is the ultimate application for restricting and monitoring the time you or others spend on the computer. Its many security measures completely block unauthorized access. It can restrict the time of day a user may log in and what applications can be run. It also monitors URLs and keystrokes, and periodically takes screenshots. WatchDog has direct Windows-policy integration to enable many advanced security features on a per-user basis. Version 9.3 includes the ability to block websites through the use of white or black lists when using any version of any Web browser, including IE7, Firefox, AOL, Opera. WatchDog filters Websites by checking for keywords in the URL.Editor's review of WatchDog Keep a watchful eye on your PC WatchDog gives you comprehensive control over how your computer is used, and how it monitors various activities. The program's bland but straightforward and familiar interface makes it easy to set permissions for users and to assign users to specific groups. Basically, the program overrides the native Windows Task Manager and gives the Administrator the keys to the car. You can control not only what programs other users can access, but when they use them and even when the computer can turn on. You can shut down the PC after a specified period of time, or allow or block access for any hour or day of the week. The newly-added URL filter builds on the full array of functions that the app presents. Hard drives, the Start menu and the Control Panel can be hidden from view, and the screenshot and keylogging functions give WatchDog some serious heft. One drawback is that the Web filter is based on URL keywords and blacklists, so there's a strong possibility that some undesired content could make it through. Given the depth of control the app provides, we'd recommend WatchDog both for parents and for very small businesses.

A parental control software program, Chronager gives you complete control over your childs use of the computer when he or she can use it for entertainment, and when for doing homework. It enables you to restrict the times when the computer can be used, and to set the times that your child may surf the Internet, play games, use particular programs, and watch movies.Editor's review of Chronoger This parental control software works well in controlling your kids' computer and Internet usage, but it often has an adverse delayed reaction. Chronoger has a well-designed interface and can't be disabled or uninstalled without its password. Like most in this category, this program lets you create timetables to determine PC and Internet access times. You also can limit access to certain applications such as games and music players.Chronoger goes a step further than others, allowing you to limit the use of your CD/DVD drives as well as other removable drives. We like that it gives users time to save their work before time completely expires. Strangely, this application doesn't immediately log off or shut the PC down when users log in outside their allotted schedule. The program accurately kept track of blocked operations and launched programs, but it failed to send e-mail reports during testing. Overall, this 14-day trial program is suitable for parents wanting to manage the time kids spend on the computer.

Suntereo is a parental control software for the Internet which allows parents to decide the sites their children and family can view on the Internet. Suntereo blocks 100% of Web sites to start. Surf with your children using a simple learning mode to add sites to the trusted sites list. Trusted sites list can then be viewed by any family member at any time. Preview sites in bypass mode. Near impossible to turn off without the password.Editor's review of Suntereo Although this easy-to-use parental software effectively blocks improper Web sites, its lack of security is more than we can forgive. Sporting a stylish, secure interface, Suntereo makes navigation painless. The program lets us create a list of trusted Web sites manually or simply by turning on the Learning mode. Beware when enabling its Learning mode, because it automatically adds in all visited Web sites to the trusted list. To browse or preview the Web sites without adding it to your list, you'll want to use Bypass mode instead.Suntereo worked well in tests and displayed its own blocked page when a site was forbidden. While it is password-protected, Suntereo doesn't require the password to uninstall the program. The program only works with Internet Explorer. With that in mind, this application is still useful to parents of young kids.

Allows you to control access to PC, Internet sites, programs, and system functions. A choice #1 for parents who don't want where children play for hours in games, navigate on bad sites, launch unallowed programs, or crash an operating system. This program can be protected by your password so nobody else can use it. It's very easy to use so you will be amazed by simplicity and functionality of this program.Editor's review of Children Control Though it only works with Internet Explorer, this easy-to-use parental control program provides effective program, Web site, and administrative-policy blocking. Children Control's tabbed, password-protected interface runs in stealth mode and can be called out from hiding using hot keys. You can prevent kids from running specific programs or administrative tasks, such as those through the task manager and control panel. The program effectively blocks Web sites by URL and content, quickly terminating our Web browser when we tried to visit a forbidden site. It also captures screenshots at specified intervals, though it doesn't create log reports. The application can't be disabled or removed without the password. The scheduler to shut down or lock the PC is easy to set up. Children Control only works with Internet Explorer, leaving other popular browsers out in the cold. Even so, parents with IE will certainly appreciate this 15-day trial's effective blocking capabilities.

The ParentalControl Bar is a free public service that helps concerned parents prevent their children from accessing adult-oriented Web sites. Complete our simple, three-step installation process below and start controling your family's online activity. Version 4.0.3.344 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of ParentalControl Bar Parental control filters have a reputation for charging a lot and giving back very little in return. Sometimes, they literally don't give enough back, and have been known to block completely clean sites. ParentalControl Bar isn't perfect--like its cousins, it blocks some sites that shouldn't be obstructed, and occasionally allows sites that should be blocked. However, the price is right--it costs nothing. Not only does it not extort parents for its services, it allows parents to approve sites both on the fly and via a "Blocked history" list. The app is small, just over 1MB. The toolbar interface allows parents one-click switching from Parent to Child mode by clicking a button, which changes from red to green. To switch back--or to use any of its nonblocking functions or view a blocked site--a password is required. Despite claims to the contrary, the program doesn't support Firefox 2, although it does work fine on Internet Explorer 7. For parents looking for a cost-effective tool to help give their children a bit of controlled freedom on the Internet, ParentalControl Bar is a safe way to go.

My Nabyoo brings to you a high performance Internet Filter. Effortlessly blocks Porn/Chat/P2P software after first install, keep detailed logs on all PC activity with an easy-to-manage interface. It can also run completely undetectable on all window machines. New sites can be banned quickly and sites that you dont think should be blocked can be allowed just as easily. Block violent games, watch PC activity as a slide show and tweak filter strength. Once installed it is impossible to disable or close by anyone except for you. Version 2.3 has less restrictions on the trial, improved filter reliability, quicker blocking of sites, easier uninstall option, different filter strength levels.Editor's review of My Nabyoo This parental filter works quite well, so long as you don't count on the demo version to protect your children from Internet nastiness. My Nabyoo's clean, intuitive interface gives you the power to restrict specific applications, P2P programs, and Web sites by URL or keyword. The range of features shines. My Nabyoo not only blocks major instant messengers and captures screenshots at user-specified intervals, it also, surprisingly, cleanses your PC of traces of online activity. Your browser's history, cache, cookies, and temporary files quickly vanish. Talk about having your cake and eating it too. My Nabyoo's biggest shortcoming is it only works with Internet Explorer; it advises you to completely block access to any other browsers on your system. During the short seven-day trial, it also disables the password-protection feature and even blows the whistle on you by presenting a My Nabyoo message whenever a page is blocked, although you can alter the message once you purchase the program. Despite that, parents will like this app's monitoring skills and tracks cleaning to boot.

PpGuard is an kid-safe internet-filter program, that runs stealth and works on a TrustFile principle. If a requested internet address ( URL ) is in the TrustFile, kids can go there. If a requested URL is not in the TrustFile, kids can't go there, until a parent has added that address into the TrustFile. This TrustFile approach guarantees a 100% blockage rate. Parents have access to a password protected, Learning-Mode, and ByPass-Mode. PpGuard works (as a proxy) with Internet Explorer and comes loaded with ~1000s kid-safe internet addresses. Parents/Administrators can choose to start with our default TrustFile, or to create their own list of Trusted Websites from scratch, via a Learning-Mode. PpGuard works equally well for Home and/or Business use.Version 1.0.4.20 may include unspecified updates, enhancements or bug fixes.Editor's review of PpGuard This easy-to-use Internet-filtering application handles well, but the lack of security is less than desirable.PpGuard's tabbed layout is bland, though navigation is painless. The preloaded list of trusted Web sites is a time-saver, and it's easy to add your own sites to the list as well. You'll need your master password to access unlisted sites, or simply enable the Learning or Bypass modes. However, be cautious when enabling the Learning mode, since all visited Web sites will be added to the trusted site list when it's activated. To peruse the Internet without adding sites, use the Bypass mode instead.During testing, PpGuard promptly blocked the Web sites that weren't on the list, and it recorded each attempt. The program only works with Internet Explorer, and even more of a disappointment, it can be easily removed since it doesn't require the password for uninstallation. While not sharp enough for adolescents and teens, parents of smaller children still can benefit from using PpGuard.

Safe2Net is a unique web browser intended for users who require the ability to restrict access to the internet. It enables an Administrator level user to lock down the browser and limit internet access to a group of pre-defined "favorite" sites, all with the simple click of a button. Safe2Net's securing method is inherently different than most other browser offerings on the market today. Don't waste your time updating endless lists of sites to prevent access to them! Thousands of potentially malicious or inappropriate new sites are launched every week. With Safe2Net, you can allow free access to the web, or, lock the browser and restrict access to that pre-defined list of favorite sites. Version 4 improves user interface, supports multiple user accounts, adds new favorites list interface.Editor's review of Safe2Net Shield kids from the Net's seamy underbelly All things considered, Safe2Net makes a quality tool for determining how your children use the Internet. It can restrict access to the entire Web except for one site, or block all sites not categorized as Favorites. The timer tool allows you to decide how much time your kids spend on the Net on certain days. The interface basically mimics that of a Web browser and allows you to hide or view items such as the desktop and your taskbar. Once Safe2Net is in Locked mode, users will need your password to unlock sites, exit the program, change its settings, or uninstall it. For added security, you can disable the Ctrl+Alt+Delete option or block access to the Web altogether. Because even savvier youngsters won't be able to circumvent its protection, Safe2Net represents a good option for parents of children of all ages.

ContentProtect is a powerful Internet-filtering tool that allows you to determine what Internet content enters your home. The product is easy to use and highly customizable to meet the unique needs of each family member. You decide what type of content is appropriate for each family member and ContentProtect blocks those sites that do not meet your standards. With ContentProtect, you gain peace of mind that your Internet experience won't be compromised by being exposed to inappropriate Web content.Editor's review of ContentProtect Efficient and almost watertight, this Internet-filtering application helps put proper barriers on Web surfing at home or in a small business. ContentProtect is highly customizable, and able to block access to Internet sites that span a wide range of content, from job search engines or Web mail, to pornography or pop-ups. The program's pop-up blocker is effective. You can program blacklists and whitelists (banned sites and approved sites, respectively). A reporting feature is a useful tool and is effective in keeping track of the program's blocking success and attempts at site retrieval. The program is adequately protected by an administrator password, and couldn't be uninstalled (no matter how hard we tried during testing) with any current applications. Although a few banned sites got through its defenses during testing, overall ContentProtect is a robust filtering application that should keep surfing clean.

1-ACT Parental Advisor 2006 protects your children from pornography, pedophiles and stalkers by blocking them. 1-ACT Parental Advisor 2006 helps you to save money by ensuring your employees are working, not surfing. 1-ACT Parental Advisor 2006 gives you peace, and makes your life much easier.Editor's review of 1-ACT Parental Advisor 2006 This application does a respectable job of delivering effective filter controls online and offline, though it lacks some monitoring features. 1-ACT Parental Advisor 2006 allows you to control access to programs and Web sites on your computer. You'll be able to block specific URLs and applications all together or simply schedule when access may be granted. The program's clear-cut interface is divided into work and play areas and provides content filtering by a user-defined keyword list. What's more, sites that are considered off-limits at all times can be placed on a blacklist. 1-ACT Parental Advisor 2006 also records keyloggers and lists all apps and URLs opened, but unlike other parental-control utilities, it doesn't provide screen captures. Our only other complaint is the stingy one-day trial period. Other than that, parents and administrators will find 1-ACT Parental Advisor 2006 an adept utility for controlling computer activity.

KidSplorer Web browser offers protection for children by allowing them to browse only a listed set of sites that have been valued as being child worthy. This Web browser has been designed specifically for the use of children and it allows parents the ultimate level of control over the content viewable in the browser. KidSplorer works from a list of sites that are proper for viewing for children of all ages. Parent can add or remove Web sites from this list at their own discretion. It also allows you to control the amount of time that your child spends on the computer. In general, KidSplorer offers you a great amount of protection as well as control over computer usage. The intuitive interface makes the program very easy for a toddler, child, parent, guardian or adult to use. Finally, parents have the Web browser to provide a safe and unsupervised Internet environment. Version 4.2.6 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of KidSplorer Web Browser This application offers parents a piece of mind while youngsters peruse the Web, though it has some slight limitations. KidSplorer Web Browser only allows children to visit Web sites you've selected. The program operates in KidSafe mode and is password-protected. There is a parental mode for easy configuration, though the password is disabled in this version. You'll be able to add, edit, and remove URLs. The program can be set to run at start-up and its interface is pleasing and kid-friendly. Approved site names are conveniently listed in a column so kids can simply point and click to access approved sites. While it doesn't limit PC use altogether, you'll certainly appreciate the addition of a time manager to block Internet access at specified times. For controlling childrens' online playtime, KidSplorer is notably effective.

Child Protector Internet Filter is anti-porn software with advanced parental controls. These allow you to prevent your children (or employees) from seeing pornographic and offensive Web content while browsing the Internet. Child Protector checks the contents of the page quickly. It blocks known offensive sites, and closes the forbidden page before it can be seen. Pages are blocked two ways Keyword filtering prevents any page from showing with offensive content. Secondly, the Web Site Black List is a list of over 500,000 sites banned by Child Protector. Child Protector can block the most common chat programs. Parental controls allow you to allow or block any site or keyword. Users can't uninstall, change settings, or close the program without the administrator password that you set. Automatic Internet updates are downloaded when our server releases new anti-porn keywords and black listed sites.Editor's review of Child Protector Internet Filter Parental Controls This application protects young kids by blocking pornographic material, though it isn't as surreptitious as implied. Child Protector Internet Filter Parental Control requires 12MB, but it's preloaded with a lengthy list of banned sites and keywords and you can add to them. When users try to gain entry onto a forbidden site, a mini pop-up window appears demanding your user-defined password, and the attempt is logged. Child Protector also blocks browsers, instant-messaging programs, and other applications. Its visually appealing interface logs screenshots and URLs, although it doesn't capture keyloggers, a staple in most monitoring tools. You can also clear a few tracks such as your temporary folder, cookies, and caches. Though we appreciate the effort, this program's stealth mode feature is anything but stealthy. Once minimized, it's plainly seen residing in the system tray, negating its hot-key access. Nevertheless, parents who don't mind their kid's awareness to its supervision can make use of this 21-day trial.

SystemSleuth is a computer surveillance program that secretly monitors all activity on your computer. You can view the results locally or have them sent to any email account. SystemSleuth allows you to view emails, passwords, instant messages, webcam images, printer activity, visited websites, microphone sounds, and keyboard activity. With the time lapse screenshot feature you can fast forward, rewind, and pause the results, just like a movie. Now you can finally see what your loved ones are really doing on the computer when you are not around.Editor's review of SystemSleuth This application provides in-depth monitoring of your system, although its trial period is rather stingy. With its simple yet intuitive interface, SystemSleuth records all activities and tasks performed on your PC. Obviously, you'll find the basics--keylogger and screenshot capturing as well as a log of programs used and Web sites visited. As expected, this utility runs in stealth mode, has hot-key access, and password-protection. You'll also be able to have logged data encrypted and e-mailed to you. The scheduler is a smart addition with its automatic captures based on a specified time or when a specific program is launched. Now here's where SystemSleuth sets itself apart from the rest. It provides a playback feature that simulates recorded activity from any of your saved log files. You can fast-forward and skip from one event to the next at will, viewing the user's activity as it was performed. While its trial period is only a disappointing 10 days, we think users will like this easy-to-use spy tool.

i-Card Family is a parental control and security solution for home used to manage access to programs, the Internet, files, etc. Deny dangerous web-pages. Audit the activity in the computer. Ask for our Smartcard based solution.Editor's review of i-Card Family This application completely controls users' computer accessibility, though it lacks password-protection. I-Card Family has a simple and well-organized interface that's relatively easy to understand. This program mainly manages computer user accessibility to programs, files, and Web sites. It also includes security level modification, usage time rights, and system and printer policy access. I-Card Family easily creates a list of users with their own accessibility settings. However, this program doesn't include a password-protection function, which is a necessity for this type of application. Novices may find this application useful enough, but it will leave advanced users wanting more.

Kid Browser is, in essence, its own browser equipped only with friendly and educational Web pages. You can prevent any Web site from loading by defining keywords on the Manage Word Filter menu. Any attempts to access sites containing banned words results in a tiny pop-up window indicating its blocked status. This application's layout is very similar to other Internet browsers so kids will easily recognize how to navigate their way in it. Kid Browser is also password-protected, preventing any changes to your current settings and restrictions. Although you'll only get a 15-day trial, we think parents will be pleased at Kid Browser's efficacy.
