Super Ad Blocker blocks all forms of advertising, including Flash ads, rich media, fly-ins, slide-ins, pop-ups, pop-unders, spyware and adware ads, and messenger ads. The program blocks over 100,000 major spyware applications, sponsored search-engine ads, and Gmail-sponsored links, and it includes advanced privacy cleaning and automatic updates, so the product is never outdated. Super Ad Blocker provides detailed statistics for the number and type of ads blocked. The application plays a fun sound when an ad is blocked to celebrate your victory. The scanner features a kernel level driver designed to help detect and remove 'rootkit' style infections. The ad-blocking now blocks IntelliText ads that appear on Web pages as double underlined words that show a window when hovered over. Version 4.4.1012 adds full Windows Vista support as well as a 40% faster anti-sypware scanner.Editor's review of Super Ad Blocker Pummel pop-ups and other pests This fine pop-up blocker won us over with its effective performance and unexpected extra features. Since Super Ad Blocker sits in your system tray and can be added to your Internet Explorer toolbar, it's convenient to access no matter what you're doing. The application's logically organized main window is split into tabs for ad blocking, history cleaning, cookies, statistics, notification, and options. In our tests, the program did an excellent job of quashing all types of pop-ups, banner ads,Flash ads, and Google ads when using both Internet Explorer and Firefox. You can add allowed sites to a whitelist. This program's antispyware tool performed quite well, stopping the vast majority of adware that tried to run on our system. The malware scanner also did a decent job. Beyond its prowess with pop-ups, Super Ad Blocker also lets you clear your Web-surfing and Windows histories. You also can view statistics on blocked-ad types and frequencies. Users who need a high-performance pop-up blocker, spyware protection, a history cleaner, or all three certainly will benefit from Super Ad Blocker.

Ad and cookie blocker and offline browser that: Rids you from advertisements and pop-up windows; Protects your privacy while you surf the web; Spares your online time, bandwidth and money; Speeds up your browsing; Supports offline browsing; Supports web document versions; Shares retrieved documents with other people and computers; Organizes retrieved documents; Explores web documents structure; Searches for downloaded documents. Version 2.4.9 updated banner filters to suppress most of the banner ads reported by our users.Editor's review of Ad Annihilator Squash ads, browse offline Much more than a simple pop-up blocker, Ad Annihilator scores all aces. The program not only installs as a colorful toolbar in your Web browser, it also lets you access all functions via a right click. In our tests, the application capably killed all pop-ups, banners, and Flash ads we threw its way, and you can choose to block or allow all three types of ads from particular sites. We appreciate that Ad Annihilator can eliminate many banners or pop-ups at once by using a string or a specific keyword as a cue to block, and the ability to save your customized settings as a project is a nice plus. Once you switch to the advanced mode, you'll uncover a whole new world of functionality, as Ad Annihilator features an enhanced cache that lets you browse offline Web pages. If you're digging through a long list of offline sites, you can easily find what you're looking for by searching by name, content, and date. We can heartily recommend this program to those who need an ad killer, an offline browser, or both.

Boost your Web-browsing speed, privacy and enjoyment by blocking most Web advertising, protect against incoming spyware, auto fill your passwords, keep your favorite bookmarks private, and auto-clean your Web browsing history. Browse more safely with SpyDeny, which monitors against most incoming adware and spyware installations; also prevents attempts to reset your home page. The online scanner scans and removes the most common malware. The online password manager automatically memorizes, encrypts, and auto-fills your Web logins. The new history cleaner automatically scrubs your browsing history (URL's, temp internet files, cookies...) once all open browsers are closed, keeping your web browsing private. Cookies can be whitelisted, and the history scrubber is customizable. Version 3.0.1 has a fix for Windows 98 users that hit the "missing Shell.dll export error".Editor's review of GoGoData Toolbar Unlike many similar programs, this free toolbar offers reliable pop-up protection, along with a couple of other handy features. In our tests the program did a fine job of quashing most pop-ups, banners, and Flash ads we threw its way. You can allow pop-ups with a quick keystroke or by adding from certain sites to the whitelist. In addition, the toolbar can stop instant-messaging pop-ups, disable background sounds on Web pages, and detect and remove spyware. We found GoGoData's adware-blocking skills a mixed bag. It did let several malicious programs run, but it blocked them from sneaking into the start-up menu, so our PC was clean after reboot. As a search portal, this program is fairly capable, as it trolls popular engines, such as Yahoo and Google, for results. You also get a secure password manager that can automatically fill Web login forms, as well as a tool that refreshes pages at user-specified intervals. The ability to quickly access stock quotes, your five favorite news sites, and weather rounds out this application's feature set. All things considered, this free and capable toolbar makes a quality pick for people who want to surf the Web ad-free.

Ultra Ad Killer installs as a browser extension for Internet Explorer. It can block pop-ups, Flash ads, floating ads, and messenger pop-up spam to speed up your browser by two to three times. It also integrates useful tools to erase tracks of your Internet and Windows activities, and it can manage start-up programs, explore pictures in your cache, and protect your IE home page. Based on the intelligent Pop-up Blocker and Ad Blocker engines, Ultra Ad Killer blocks 100 percent of unsolicited pop-ups and all kinds of ads without interfering with normal navigation. You also can access the blocked pop-ups or ads through the detailed blocked log.Version 1.31 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of Ultra Ad Killer This excellent pop-up blocker wins our praise for its extensive features and reliable performance. Like many programs of this kind, Ultra Ad Killer sits in your system tray and allows access to its settings via a right click. As soon as we saw the tabbed interface, we realized this application is not just another pop-up blocker, although it has all the tools we usually expect, including a whitelist, a blacklist, a log, and both visual and audio notifications. However, it was this app's extra features that really made us take notice. Ultra Ad Killer can protect your online privacy by deleting the surfing history, cached files, and typed URLs, and it can clean out Windows system areas such as the Run menu and the Recycle Bin. We like that the tool lets you view pictures of cached files, and the cookie manager was yet another plus. After testing Ultra Ad Killer, it's clear that the program hasn't lost sight of its main job, as it did a fine job with regular and floating pop-ups, banners, and Flash ads. If you like, you can even block JavaScripts, JPEGs, and ActiveX components from loading. All told, this program is a fine Web-surfing partner that would make a nice pick for just about anyone.

The program automatically blocks pop-up and pop-under ads and allows pop-up ads only from sites you select. It preserves bandwidth by stopping pop-ups before they load. Popup Free is a pop-up killer based on artificial intelligence and intelligent agent technologies. Get rid of annoying pop-up windows, enhance your Web-surfing experience, and protect your privacy. Version 1.55 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of Popup Free This tiny program doesn't offer a host of features, but Popup Free copes with pop-ups just as well as programs 10 times its size. Popup Free installs as an Internet Explorer module and doesn't consume much memory. In our testing, it killed all intruders. If the program kills a pop-up you want, just move it from the Blocked Windows list to the Allowed list. In spite of its impressive performance, we find the 14-day trial period a bit too short, particularly when you consider most free Web browsers now feature pop-up protection. Nevertheless, we'd recommend the small, strong Popup Free to those plagued with pop-ups, but concerned about disk space.

Pop-Up Sentry Anti-Spyware blocks all types of advertising including pop-ups, pop-unders, Flash ads, rich media, fly-in and slide-in ads, spyware ads, and messenger ads. It blocks more than 100,000 major spyware and adware programs, Trojan horses, and home-page hijackers. Automatic updates keep the application current at all times, and the program completely cleans your cache, cookies, and browser history. Pop-Up Sentry also blocks sponsored search ads on Google, MSN, and Yahoo and optionally blocks annoying ad banners. The program is easy to use and contains no spyware, adware, or any other harmful software. Sponsored-ad and banner blocking is now available under the advanced options and is off by default. Version 4.0.1008 has an updated anti-spyware scanner, supports IE7 and Firefox and introduces a new bandwidth saving mode for ad-blocking.Editor's review of Pop-Up Sentry Anti-Spyware Despite the limiting name, Pop-Up Sentry swats away all kinds of annoyances. It handles pop-ups, banners, and Flash and DHTML ads without a hitch and didn't hinder our browsing at all. It lets through pop-ups for entering passwords via secure connections, as well as ones you've approved. Should an unauthorized pop-up slip by, you can report it to the developers with a click. Though Pop-Up Sentry is not primarily an adware blocker, it does a better job than many specialized utilities. At 16MB, the program does consume a considerable amount of memory when running in the background. However, when supplemented with a free spyware scanner, Pop-Up Sentry provides a formidable line of defense for your PC.

Pop-Up Washer intelligently blocks intrusive pop-up ads and messenger windows. Featuring smart pop-up management, Pop-Up Washer gives you complete control over the pop-up windows you see as well as those you don't. The software offers advanced technology that stops annoying ads that other pop-up stoppers can't, while allowing you to see user-initiated and navigational pop-up windows. It stops pop-ups at the Internet Explorer engine before they appear, preventing screen flickers common to other pop-up blockers. With one-click activation and the option to log blocked pop-ups and to customize sounds made when ads are stopped, Pop-Up Washer offers easy-to-use features that will dramatically improve your online experience.Editor's review of Webroot Pop-Up Washer This program classes up the category of pop-up blockers with a stylish interface and decent features. Installation flies by, and at least the program warns you that it will close all browser windows, unlike some pop-up blockers. Webroot Pop-Up Washer presents the standard options, such as logging blocked pop-ups, disabling Messenger service, configuring the sound that plays when it blocks a pop-up, and running at Windows start-up. In general, the software works quickly and destroys annoying pop-up windows without opening them. The interface is particularly impressive, as is the program's ability to automatically update itself, a big step forward for such software. Its workmanlike performance and good looks suit Webroot Pop-Up Washer for home or office use.

Panicware's Pop-Up Stopper blocks pop-up ads in Netscape, Internet Explorer, and Mozilla. It can block Messenger Service and desktop ads, too. There's no need to adjust proxy settings or add sites to a list. Pop-Up Stopper will not strip Web images or slow your browser. You can allow pop-up windows when you want them. User settings allow various pop-up notifications, such as flashing icons or new, fun sounds. Simply hold the Ctrl or Shift key to allow selective pop-up windows; but most new links should open automatically. Version 3.1.14 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of Pop-Up Stopper Free Edition Whether you use IE, Netscape, or Mozilla, Pop-Up Stopper Free Edition has you covered. You can specify different sound and text-bubble alarms or set your mouse to change colors when the program blocks a pop-up ad. Unlike some of its ilk, this utility doesn't affect the Open in New Window right-click context-menu command. You can allow individual pop-up windows by holding the Ctrl or Shift key. The one drawback to the free edition is that it limits your configuration options and doesn't let you specify pop-ups you want to always allow. Despite those drawbacks, Pop-Up Stopper Free Edition is still a great weapon in the war against annoying pop-up pests.

ZeroAds makes online surfing enjoyable by blocking Internet ads, annoying pop-ups, and bad cookies from ever reaching your computer. With ZeroAds, Web sites load three times faster without the clutter and you get only the information you need. The built-in spyware monitor gives you relief from the aggravation caused by relentless advertising coming from spyware -- you not only surf faster but safer as well. ZeroAds now blocks ads sent through the Windows net send service, which can be abused by Web marketers to send you unwanted ads. ZeroAds' bright blue interface traps online junk, making ad-blocking effortless. There's no need to worry about setting up as ZeroAds configures itself for optimal performance. Includes 24-7 access to remote restore service center. This service platform allows you to interact directly with live technical support experts to troubleshoot any software related problems. Editor's review of ZeroAds This program blocks pop-up windows, cookies, and ads, as well as detecting spyware on your computer. ZeroAds Pop-up Killer and Ad Blocker lives as a panel on your desktop that shows how many nuisances it's blocked. In our testing, the program stopped all pop-up ads and many banner ads. The program automatically shows the name of spyware it finds, as well as the actions you can take. You can choose to hide the panel to the system tray or have a toolbar always on top of other programs. The Flash interface makes it look simultaneously more professional and friendlier than many similar programs. The small font is hard to read against the black background. Happily, the publisher fixed the uninstall problems that plagued earlier versions, but uninstalling still requires a restart. That restart prevents you from answering the survey about why you uninstalled. The download file here is just an installer that downloads the real installer. We didn't like the registration nag that pops up during use; still, the high effectiveness of ZeroAds Pop-up Killer and Ad Blocker should please just about anyone.

Pop-Up Stopper Professional blocks all pop-up windows and cleans tracking files in various browsers on Internet connections. Pop-Up Stopper Professional blocks or closes pop-up and pop-under ads in all browsers, including AOL, MSN, Netscape, Internet Explorer, SBCYahoo, WMConnect, and Opera. Pop-Up Stopper Professional can optionally download free updates, and clean and manage cookies in browsers, from one utility. It can remove browser history and cache and even clean index.dat files, even for separate users and logins. Panicware's technology allows users to permit pop-up windows from specific Web sites, and preserve bandwidth by blocking pop-up windows before they load. Version 1.80.1 provides full support for the FireFox browser, including file cleaning, pop-up ad blocking, cookie management, and history cleaning.Editor's review of Pop-Up Stopper Professional There may be nothing more frustrating than battling pesky online pop-up windows. While this program performs well, to really control creative pop-ups, you'll need a far more refined tool. Pop-up Stopper Professional does work with a large majority of browsers currently on the market (including, most recently, Mozilla Firefox.) During testing, the program was able to block most pop-up windows, but missed items such as "fly-in" advertisement windows and other more unusual pop-up windows. To allow pop-ups, you simply add a Web link to an allowed list. Yet at times the program was too robust, blocking even the sites we had given previous permission to allow pop-ups. A convenient workaround includes the option to give immediate permission to sites by holding down the Ctrl or Shift keys. Overall, we would have liked to see a bit more flexibility and reliability with this pop-up stopper.

This patch for Internet Explorer adds a multiwindow tabbed navigator, a pop-up blocker, a tracks eraser, and a banner remover. You don't need more than one browser running on your system. The program kills image and Flash banners, fixes Web bugs, clears Internet tracks, and protects you from denial-of-service attacks. You can recover disk space by deleting all Internet trash with one click. One feature prevents trusted domains from MereSurfer, and you can import trusted domain names from your Favorites folder. This program plays a sound when blocking pop-ups and doesn't kill good pop-ups. The Pop-Up Blocker module uses artificial intelligence to block all known bad pop-ups.Version 10.8 includes the modified Ad Blocker module.Editor's review of MereSurfer 2005 All-in-IE Edition Our favorite aspect of the MereSurfer 2005 All-in-IE Edition plug-in is its much-needed support for tabbed browsing a la Firefox, Mozilla, and Opera (though it takes a good idea too far, providing no way to open a page in a new window instead of a tab). However, that's not all. MereSurfer offers solid and flexible tools for blocking pop-ups and ads, blacklisting sites, and cleaning up your browsing history. For instance, you can set the program to clean your browser's cache, cookies, and history for untrusted domains only. The pop-up blocker performed well in our tests, and the aforementioned stability problems have been resolved. Still, some users may find it annoying that the application pops up a nag screen every time you launch a new browser window. Nevertheless, habitual Internet Explorer users looking to extend the functionality of their browser might find this download useful.

Stop all types of pop-up ads with Pop-Up No-No. Make the most of your time on the Internet by using this amazing and 100 percent free software. Pop-Up No-No blocks far more ads than other pop-up blocking software. It also blocks pop-unders, multimedia Flash ads, messenger service ads, background sounds, and even GIF animations. Functions included a hot-key quick search for your favorite search engine, running statistical information, multiuser support, and pop-up reporting. 100% free and 100% free of spyware, adware, and spam. Version 2.1 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of Pop-Up No-No There's a lot to like about Pop-Up No-No, but there are plenty of flaws, too. The installation is fast, but to launch the program you have to register at the developer's site and get a free registration code through e-mail. Only after you type in the code does the program start working in your system tray. Pop-Up No-No can disable background sounds, GIF animations, and messenger service ads, and it can launch at start-up. The program claims to ban Flash ads, but that didn't work in our testing. It works with Internet Explorer as well as Netscape, Mozilla, and Opera. However, it opens pop-up windows before closing them. You can only access the program's features by right-clicking on the icon in the system tray, which makes you wonder why it creates a desktop icon. If you don't mind having to register, Pop-Up No-No might satisfy home users, especially those who use the Netscape browser.

AdSubtract Pro blocks banner ads, pop-up and pop-under ads, text ads, multimedia ads, and cookies. It also blocks paid search-engine results. Search Sanity lets you put relevance back into your search results by removing sponsored listings from query results.Editor's review of AdSubtract Pro This capable ad-blocker stops many forms of advertisements, although we found one pretty big caveat. AdSubract Pro stops banner ads, pop-ups, Flash ads, Web page animations, background sounds, and cookies. The unique Search Sanity feature eliminates paid search results from engines such as Google or Yahoo. The program baosts an attractive skinnable control panel and appears as an Internet Explorer toolbar, complete with statistics. As a bonus, AdSubract Pro can clean up your surfing history and several Windows system areas, but this feature doesn't function with alternative browsers. Other, more standard features include a whitelist and the ability to associate different sounds with different types of ads. Though that all sounds good, AdSubract Pro forces you to relinquish your e-mail address to use it. Worse still, you cannot opt out of the mandatory newsletters from directly within the installation screen. This utility certainly delivers a fine feature set and solid performance, but the unwanted e-mails may cause some users to look elsewhere.

Stop all those annoying pop-ups on the Internet. ComputerHelp.com Pop-up Blocker features an easy-to-use interface that provides easy access to all its great features.Editor's review of Pop-up Blocker This straight-ahead pop-up blocker lacks a few features we like to see, but since it's free and boasts fairly decent performance, we can still recommend it to users with simple needs. Just like its name, Pop-up Blocker has a main window that isn't very inspired, but it is easy to use and places the whitelists and blacklists in easily accessible locations. You also can temporarily allow pop-ups for certain sites via a hot-key combination. Though the application tallies the number of ads it kills, it doesn't keep detailed log files as many of its competitors do. The utility capably quashes most garden-variety pop-ups but can't deal with Flash, banner, or floating ads. It's nice that Pop-up Blocker notifies you with a sound effect, but we would prefer if the system tray icon also flashed when an ad was killed. This program is likely too simple for hard-core Web surfers, but casual and novice users might give it a try.

Smart Popup Blocker can intelligently block pop-up ads and messenger pop-up spam, and speed Internet Explorer by optimizing settings. It also cleans cookies and guards your default Internet Explorer home page. The application resides in the system tray, works as an add-on of the IE browser, and automatically starts when you start up Internet Explorer.Version 1.20 can block VBScript pop-ups.Editor's review of Smart Popup Blocker This absolutely standard, yet free pop-up blocker, worked quite well in our tests, but like many of its brethren, it is powerless against floating pop-ups. Smart Popup Blocker indicates its presence with a system-tray icon and will blink or emit a gunshot sound when eliminating a pop-up ad. If you occasionally want pop-ups from certain sites, you can temporarily disable the utility by holding the Ctrl key or by adding the URL to the Allowed list. However, we were somewhat disenchanted to discover Smart Popup Blocker works only with Internet Explorer. However, though the program takes more PC resources than we'd like, it didn't slow down computer use and Web surfing in our tests. The application also has a privacy feature that deletes cookies. If you don't need a full range of features for pop-up protection, this application will certainly do.

Eliminate annoying pop-up ads. The Free Popup Blocker is now included with The Free Toolbar. Our integration with Internet Explorer blocks pop-ups before they appear. Search with The Free Toolbar from any site. Get results from dictionary, thesaurus, stock quotes, and popular search engines. The eight engines include Overture and FindWhat, the engines that feed Yahoo and MSN. You're not locked into any engine. The program remembers your preferred engine. No spyware. No adware. The Free Toolbar--we don't track your movements, we don't serve you ads, and we don't even ask for your e-mail address.Editor's review of The Free Toolbar Although we appreciate its free status, this run-of-the-mill toolbar doesn't stand out from the crowd with any special capabilities. The Free Toolbar sits unobtrusively in your browser window, blending seamlessly into the overall mix. This program lets you comb the Web via eight search engines, including MSN and Google. You'll also find a dictionary, a thesaurus, and a very bare-bones utility for erasing your Web-surfing history. The app's built-in pop-up blocker was certainly not invincible, stopping some basic pop-up ads but allowing other to squeak through. The Free Toolbar also won't work with Netscape, Mozilla, or any browser except Internet Explorer. But since it is totally free and doesn't take up much room on your system, we think that certain users might get some benefit from this toolbar.

Popup Killer is a small program that can be configured to automatically close previously selected windows. Since the first public version, no pop-up has evolved from a purely manual application, wherein you manually select pop-ups to an intelligent program that detects potential pop-up windows and closes them so fast you won't even see them.Editor's review of Popup Killer Though not as glamorous as other anti-pop-up programs, Popup Killer stops almost every kind of intrusive ad. One thing we immediately noticed was that the app is listed as All Popup Remover on one icon, as well as in the main window. However, it is named correctly at the developer's site and on the disable button. This puppy stopped most ads when put through a battery of standard and advanced tests. The interface is simple, featuring an icon for temporarily disabling Popup Killer at specific sites, a control for toggling sound on and off, and a button that lets you buy the program. We like that Popup Killer notifies you each time an ad is blocked; also, the ability to hold down the Control key if you want to allow a specific pop-up is a nice touch. The pop-up counter didn't list every blocked ad, but since your browser window notifies you each time the program eliminates a pop-up, we can do without a running tally. Overall, we like Popup Killer for its simple interface and almost flawless effectiveness against ads, though we find the 15-day trial period a bit stingy.

AdsNoMore is a pop-up stopper and banner-ad blocker designed to eliminate all the ads that disrupt your online experience. It will stop adware and spyware pop-ups, Web pop-ups from Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, and Mozilla, and banners, resulting in faster browsing. It also allows you to block messager-service ads from software such as Kazaa, AIM, MSN, and ICQ. AdsNoMore allows you to define a whitelist and a blacklist of URLs; to configure ad servers; to keep a log of every blocked pop-up and banner; and to configure sound notifications of all blocks. AdsNoMore provides additional protection even if you run firewall software such as ZoneAlarm or antispyware software such as Ad-Aware. AdsNoMore is all you will ever need to keep your computer free of ads.Editor's review of AdsNoMore After spending some time with this program, we found it to be a rather capable line of defense against various Web ads. After installation, you'll find AdsNoMore in your system tray, and when you click the icon, you'll probably appreciate the well-organized, tabbed structure. Like most anti-ad tools worth their salt, this one lets you approve pop-ups from certain sites via a keystroke or by an entering a URL in the whitelist. Clicking the Options tab offers choices for stopping pop-ups, banners, or Flash ads, and the program contains a separate log for each type of pest. Along similar lines, we liked that AdsNoMore plays a different sound depending on what sort of nuisance it vanquishes. In our testing, this utility took care of just about every kind of ad it encountered--including IM pop-ups--though a few floating instances did manage to squeak through. Still, we can recommend this program to anyone who wants to protect him or herself from a variety of annoying ads.

GuardWall is an award-winning add-on to Internet Explorer that blocks more than just pop-up ads--it also blocks Flash ads and animated ads embedded in Web pages, and it prevents your browser from being hijacked or your home page from being reset. GuardWall also is a privacy tool that removes all Web histories, such as form entries and typed URLs.Editor's review of Guardwall Popup Killer & History Eraser Despite some annoying tendencies, this pop-up killer demonstrates good performance and provides some nice extras. Guardwall Popup Killer & History Eraser installs both as a system-tray icon and as a browser toolbar, and its settings are accessible from either location. The program offers all the basics we expect from a pop-up stopper, including a whitelist and sound notification, but unlike other similar apps we've seen, this one can take screenshots of all windows it blocks. Still, we would have preferred a no-nonsense text log for faster viewing of a list of blocked ads. As you might guess from its name, this utility also can help you retain your online anonymity by deleting Web-surfing traces such as cookies, temporary Internet files, and typed URLs. However, we'd suggest turning privacy notification off, as we found the app's constant reminders to clean our cookies irritating. We also should note that, ironically, Guardwall Popup Killer & History Eraser gives you its own pop-up messages nagging you to register the product. Still, we did like the feature that let us block potential threats such as scripts, browser hijackers, and ActiveX controls. During testing, this program shot down just about every pop-up it encountered, though it wouldn't stop Flash ads or banners. In the final analysis, this program stands out from the heap, largely due to its additional features.

FightAds blocks pop-ups, protects your privacy, guards against intruders, and stops adware and spyware in its tracks. The program features SmartUpdate technology that automatically keeps your system up-to-date with the latest in pop-up blocking, privacy, and security technologies. FightAds Service will prevent others from viewing your private activities while you surf the Web, and at the same time blocks annoying and intrusive pop-up advertisements, for a low monthly fee.Editor's review of FightAds For common pop-ups, FightAds is serviceable, if not necessarily full-service. The utility did a fine job of killing pop-ups in our test, but its database is too small (about 50 possible threats) to power a robust adware remover. Besides its lack of a browser toolbar, the interface is just what you'd expect, and you're notified when windows or other intrusions are blocked. We found that the program only works with Internet Explorer, despite its claim that it supports other browsers. FightAds doesn't hinder normal browsing, but it consumes a bit too much system memory. In addition to its primary function, the program also will clear your cookies, browsing history, and cached Web pages (though the manual doesn't say how often). We'd recommend FightAds first and foremost as a simple pop-up blocker for users facing garden-variety ads.

Stop-the-Pop-Up Lite is a free pop-up blocker preventing all annoying pop-up windows from appearing as you surf the Web. The pop-up stopper has full support for both pop-up and pop-under ads and will kill them even before they appear on the screen. Each time a pop-up is closed you will hear a cute sound effect. To allow pop-up windows, you can temporarily disable the pop-up killer by holding Control, Shift, or 'a'. Another Stop-the-Pop-Up Lite feature is its ability to kill all pop-ups from file-sharing programs as well as from the spyware and adware that is bundled with these peer-to-peer programs. Stop-the-Pop-Up Lite supports Kazaa, Kazaa Lite, Morpheus, Grokster, iMesh, Xolox, and Direct Connect. Stop-the-Pop-Up Lite also will kill the new breed of pop-ups called Messenger Service spam. Messenger Service pop-ups can spam you even when your browser is closed. Stop-the-Pop-Up Lite recognizes and kills hostile ActiveX controls from companies known to develop spyware or adware.Editor's review of Stop-the-Pop-Up Lite This program blocks annoying pop-up windows with a splash. Stop-the-Pop-Up Lite installs so quickly that you won't even notice it happening. Once you launch the freeware, you face a tiny number of choices. All you can do is disable the freeware, set it to launch automatically at Windows start-up, and enable the aggressive mode. The button marked Advanced Settings leads only to a nag screen that says that those features do not exist in the Lite version. In general, though, the program works well. When a pop-up emerges, the program immediately destroys it. The program excels even at counteracting file-sharing networks such as Kazaa and Morpheus. Home users could do much worse than the serviceable Stop-the-Pop-Up Lite.

PopupDummy blocks all those annoying pop-up ads from Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, Adware, and desktop applications using the combined ability of automatic pop-up blocking and adware/spyware detection. No setup is needed and it's fully effective. The application features a block list, sound effects, a safe list, the ability to hold down CTRL to bypass, and a cookie manager. PopupDummy also supports blocking pop-ups from Kazaa, Morpheus, Grokster, Limewire, Bearshare, Gator, and Netzero.Editor's review of PopupDummy This pop-up blocker boasts all necessary features and demonstrates pleasing performance. Similar to most good programs of its kind, this one has both a black list for banning all ads from specific sites and a white list for doing the opposite. You also can permit pop-ups on the fly with the simple press of a hot key. PopupDummy sits in your system tray and emits a sound, blinks, and logs a URL whenever it beats down an ad. The variety of sounds in particular is rather impressive, ranging from the crack of a bullwhip to the slamming of a jail door. In our tests the program did a fine job of blocking most pop-ups and Flash ads, though it can't deal with banners. The cookie manager is a nice plus, but the 10-day trial is bit too chintzy in our book. Still, this utility is a better solution than many of the mediocre pop-up blockers flooding the market.

Ad Arrest Popup Killer uses an advanced, 2-filter system to block pop-up advertising from Internet Explorer, Kazaa, Morpheus, AOL, Gator, and chat programs such as ICQ, AIM, Trillian, MSN, and Yahoo Messenger. It will also prohibit spam ads initiated through your browser by spyware, adware, and virus programs. The software requires minimal resources, and it will not conflict with personal firewall programs like ZoneAlarm or anti-spyware programs like Ad-Aware. Ad Arrest offers a simple hotkey system for managing your whitelist, so you can tailor the software to your specific browsing needs.Editor's review of Ad Arrest IE Popup Killer This program blocks the pop-up windows that mar your Web surfing. When you start Ad Arrest IE Popup Killer, it opens the configuration window. Among its advanced options are basics such as selecting whether to play a sound when the program blocks a pop-up and setting the software to launch on start-up. The Usage Info button leads to a quick demo of such features as the standard use of the Ctrl key to accept a pop-up once and the less common ability to add a site to the whitelist by pressing the Shift key. Frequent nag screens ask you to register the software. Otherwise, Ad Arrest IE Popup Killer worked perfectly in our testing, blocking all pop-ups. It had no difficulty blocking non-English pop-up windows, killing them right away. In general, the program is small, efficient, and helpful.

Perfect Popup Killer can intelligently kill those annoying unsolicited pop-up ads while allowing good pop-ups through. Add pop-ups to your allow list without a problem. The application speeds up your Internet connection by not having to load those annoying pop-up windows and works with Netscape, IE, AOL, MSN, and Yahoo.Editor's review of Perfect Popup Killer This pop-up blocker provides most of the standard tools for kicking annoying ads out of life. Perfect Popup Killer installs as a Web-browser toolbar in Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Mozilla, but also sits in your system tray. You'll find a dedicated whitelist for allowing pop-ups from specific sites and a hot-key option for doing so on the fly. When the program slays an ad, it can alert you by flashing, beeping, and playing a sound. In our tests, the utility didn't slow down our Web surfing and capably handled most pop-ups and Flash ads, but it can't deal with banner ads. Although it doesn't offer anything we'd consider special, Perfect Popup Killer still makes a decent choice for all but the most hard-core Web surfers.

ZapPop The Popup Killer is an Internet Explorer pop-up killer that prevents unwanted pop-up and pop-under windows as well as banner ads. There is no need to set up particular Web sites or keywords; ZapPop The Popup Killer works without any user intervention. It sits in the taskbar quietly until it detects a pop-up. It then intercepts the window, which never appears. You even have the option of hearing a pleasant "zap" sound each time the program goes to work for you. Each "zap" tells you that ZapPop has stopped one more annoying advertiser from interfering with your enjoyment of the Internet.Editor's review of ZapPop The PopUp Killer Simple as can be, ZapPop The PopUp Killer does its job, but proves to be a drag. You can install it and go, since configuration is limited to adding it to the Windows start-up, and setting sounds. It's worth noting that you can use any sound on your system for the pop-up-killing accompaniment; just point to any WAV file. In terms of functionality, ZapPop makes quick work of destroying pop-up windows before they open. Unfortunately, it slows down Internet Explorer significantly, a major drawback. With so many freeware programs offering the same or more functionality without any impact on surfing speed, we wouldn't recommend ZapPop as a leader in this crowded sphere.

This simple and efficient ad blocker removes ads by utilizing the Hosts file to block sites. It's easy to use and doesn't use proxies. You can manually choose which sites to block or automatically download a list of servers. It filters the Web, AIM, and Kazaa.Editor's review of AdFree Designed to block ad windows during Web surfing, AdFree proves too labor-intensive to win us over. The program launches at start-up and resides in your system tray under an icon of your choice. Its method is to maintain a massive list of hosts known to display ad windows and block initiated windows from those hosts. A floating counter tracks how many ads are blocked. However, its effectiveness is limited. Because the program will not block pop-ups from unknown hosts, you must continually update the blacklist in order to keep pop-ups at bay. AdFree works fine for what it is, but the ongoing configuration requirements likely will become tiresome for many users.

CyberDefender safeSEARCH Security Toolbar is a totally FREE toolbar with aggressive pop-up blocking capabilities and anti-phishing technology that returns safe search results by protecting users against phishing scams. safeSEARCH issues website safety ratings based on advanced anti-phishing technology developed by the CyberDefender threat research laboratory. safeSEARCH includes a variety of advanced security features including: Pop-Up Blocker, Anti-Phishing Filter, Password Alert, Site Info and Quick Search. Version 1 features updated user interface, and enhanced capabilities.Editor's review of CyberDefender SafeSEARCH Toolbar This toolbar thwarts phishing attempts and warns you of malicious sites as you happen upon them, but it didn't halt flagged sites from loading during our tests. CyberDefender works with Internet Explorer and offers minimal features in comparison to similar toolbar applications. Searches are conducted by Google, and its history can be instantly wiped away from a short drop-down list.Once a page fully loads, the toolbar gives the site's rating (based on previous activity) and indicates it by an icon, text, or both. Our favorite feature is the Site Info button, which tells a site's host name, cookie and script counts, protocol, and more. You can also view and disable stored passwords on IE and block pop-ups. The application's settings features allowed us to rearrange the bar to our liking.Although CyberDefender indicates from the bar whether a site is a threat, it doesn't block the page from loading or await further notice. Even so, we appreciate the way it IDs the bad guys from the start. Security-conscious users will like this free tell-all application.

A popup ad killer which frees up your browser from nuisance popup ads. Also defeats spyware browser hijackers by sending browser back to your home page. Logs popup ads and spyware so you can review them. Works with Internet Explorer.Editor's review of Popup Terminator Lite It's an effective pop-up killer, but Popup Terminator Lite seems to have trouble accurately measuring its success. The program doesn't get off to a very good start with its crude UI, and if that doesn't put potential users off, the stingy three-day trial just might. Those who do decide to hang on will find that Popup Terminator Lite effectively kills a wide range of pop-up ads, including those annoying ones that launch new browser windows. It's also supposed to keep a running total of ads it's blocked, but the system tray display wasn't accurate in our tests. Even after visiting a site riddled with pop-ups, the tally never budged, although the ads were completely blocked. Popup Terminator Lite needs a bit more tweaking, and maybe a little design work, to compete against its numerous competitors. It works for the most part, but with so many fully effective programs out there, it's just not a contender in our book.

NoAds stops Internet popup ads from getting in the way of your web surfing. NoAds is fully configurable, allowing you to specify which ads you want to be destroyed automatically. It supports most popular Web browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, and America Online. The program is very easy to use, and stays running in the system tray for quick access.Editor's review of NoAds In spite of a few pluses, this pop-up blocker performs poorly. To NoAds's credit, it does support quite a few browsers beyond Internet Explorer, including Firefox, AOL, and Netscape. It comes loaded with a list of common pop-up ads to target, such as those that come from Angelfire home pages. Still, it lets through most pop-ups you might encounter in an average surfing session. Although NoAds lets you add new targets to its databases, most users will abandon this complicated and inconvenient process before completion. The app offers no white list or options for allowing pop-ups, and it's utterly powerless against banner and Flash ads. Besides its support for multiple browsers, the best news about this application is its freeware price. Because of that, we can cautiously recommend NoAds to very occasional Web surfers, but everyone else will find it an unacceptable solution.

Advanced Popup Killer 2003 is a Windows program for closing unwanted pop-up and advertisement windows that appear while you surf the Web. You can choose a keyboard shortcut, and, after you use it on an active Internet browser window, that window will automatically be closed every time it tries to appear again. Advanced Popup Killer works very well with Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, and other Web browsers. It also works well with MP3 file-sharing programs that display advertisements using Internet Explorer, such as Kazaa. Version 4 may include unspecified updates, enhancements or bug fixes.Editor's review of Advanced Popup Killer A colorful interface can't make up for clunky operation, and Advanced Popup Killer adds nothing to an already saturated software category. It offers most of the standard features for a program of this type. You can minimize it to the system tray, have it run at Windows start-up, and create a blacklist of banned sites. However, an effective pop-up sentry needs to be self-sufficient. Here, as each pop-up window launches, you must press a hot-key combination to add its URL to a blocked list. That may have been fine when every pop-up on the Web was an X10 ad, but these days you could spend your whole day browsing without encountering the same pop-up. Unless your browsing habits deliver predictable pop-ups over and over, Advanced Popup Killer is more likely to annoy you with its impotence than to wow you with its power.

Stop Pop PLUS is most reliable software to protect your valuable time and data against dangerous Web sites, which are spawning unwanted pop-ups. It will kill pop-ups immediately and assure that no dangerous action is performed. Even more, stop Pop PLUS has integrated Dataminer Scanner. This extra feature will help you to detect and remove Adware and Spyware data bases from your PC.Editor's review of Stop Pop Plus Considering all the competition on the market, we expect much more from this shareware application. Stop Pop Plus claims to block unwanted pop-up ads while browsing and even attemps to monitor malware and spyware. Yet in our tests, far too many pop-ups made it past its protection. Not only did the program allow pop-up windows while in its "high-protection" mode, it also allowed fly-in advertisements. The program's Dataminer Scanner, billed as an added barrier against malware and spyware, turned out to simply be a basic utility for inspecting cookies. On the positive side, Stop Pop Plus didn't slow our browser (it only works with Internet Explorer, unfortunately). We were able to view desired pop-ups without much problem, given the program's scrappy yet convenient interface. If you want to allow pop-ups from a certain Web site, Stop Pop Plus gives you the option in two mouse clicks directly in your browser window. We also discovered that the program takes up a lot of memory while running in the background--almost 7 MB. Overall, Stop Pop Plus stops some pop-ups, but it could be far more aggressive.

If you're tired of annoying pop-up ads when you're surfing the Web, stop them with CleanMyPC Popup Blocker. The built-in artificial-intelligence engine will automatically distinguish between pop-up ads and useful pop-up windows, stopping the unwanted windows while allowing the useful ones. Version 2.1 enhances the blocking engine and contains some minor bug fixes.Editor's review of CleanMyPC Popup Blocker This free pop-up blocker boasts decent performance, although its lack of features is a major strike against it. CleanMyPC Popup Blocker is one of the simplest such applications we've ever seen. The program installs as a browser toolbar with two small icons, one of which enables or disables pop-up blocking. We were a bit disappointed to learn this utility doesn't offer any level of user customization, not even a list of allowed sites. Though the app displays a counter that tracks blocked ads, it won't blink, play a sound, or alert you in any other way. Nevertheless, we were glad to see the newest version of this program features improved blocking performance over previous releases, although it still isn't completely foolproof against some ads. Because of its simplicity, CleanMyPC Popup Blocker best suits casual Web surfers.

Hitware Popup Killer Pro is a privacy-software solution. It is the pop-up blocker that eliminates all unwanted pop-up and pop-under ads even before they appear. The application also comes with a history-cleaner feature that securely cleans all your browser, windows, and application tracks from your computer. It also features a windows hot key feature to hide all your browser windows and mute your Windows sound with a key press. Version 3.1.1.8 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.Editor's review of Hitware Companion This pop-up blocker provides a few extra niceties beyond its main function. During our tests, Hitware Companion stopped all standard pop-ups with no problem, though similar to many of its competitors, it can't deal with banner or Flash ads. You will find a whitelist for allowing ads, but you can't let one through on the fly via a simple hot-key combo. The application alerts you whenever it quashes an ad by flashing or emitting a sound, but the absence of a log file is a curious oversight. In addition to its primary job, the program protects your privacy by deleting cookies, temporary Internet files, and Web-browsing history. It also cleans traces from various locations in Windows and wipes your tracks from certain applications, such as Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Word. We were pleased to find a tool for immediately closing all browser Windows, though it a shame we could never get it to work. Hitware Companion is by no means perfect, but it still makes a decent pick for most casual Web surfers.

Super Popup Blocker is a pop-up killer that can clean all traces of your Web activities, including Internet Explorer cache files and typed URLs. It also can help you clear Windows activities, including your document history and temporary files.Editor's review of Super Popup Blocker Although it provides decent protection from pop-ups, this program does a terrible job of detecting and removing adware. In our tests, Super Popup Blocker was mostly effective at quashing ads, although it did let a few through. Settings allow the program to start along with Windows, block Messenger pop-ups, and produce a beep when it finds and blocks a pop-up. Other standard features include a blacklist and a whitelist. Super Popup Blocker also includes a simple utility for erasing your Web surfing and Windows activities. The program's adware tool didn't fare nearly as well as its other functions. We installed a number of well-known malware components that even the simplest adware-detection tool should be able to ferret out. Alas, Super Popup Blocker didn't find a single one of them, forcing us to remove the offenders with another program. If you need a simple pop-up blocker, this program will do, but don't rely on its adware feature.

Another IE Popup Killer blocks pop-up windows (windows that don't have a menu bar) in IE and makes a beep when removing one. Pop-ups will not be blocked if the Ctrl key is pressed. It's not a super-pop-up killer that works in either low-level Hook or Hostfile mode; it works in Windows-level mode, so it's very stable as well as useful for many users who don't need an ultimate pop-up remover. Version 2.0 includes optimized arithmetic logic and autostart with IE or with Windows options.Editor's review of Another IE Popup Killer The program's title says it all. Another IE Popup Killer is yet another pop-up killer for the Internet Explorer browser. The installation is almost invisible. The program launches its pinwheel icon into the system tray after displaying a tiny selection of settings, most of which are disabled. The trial version lets you set the program to start with Windows, play a sound, or flash its icon when killing a pop-up. If you press the Ctrl key when you click a link, the program allows that window to come through. Still, the program is not as powerful as it could be, especially in the trial version. You have to register to change the sound or the hot key. The default medium-sensitivity, which you can't change until you register, lets through an awful lot of ads and blocks some legitimate pop-up windows. When the blocker encounters a barrage of pop-up windows, it freezes temporarily. Registered users may find the capabilities of Another IE Popup Killer sufficient, but the trial version leaves much to be desired.

DashPopUpKiller is free software that efficiently blocks pop-up ads from everyday sites, banner advertising, and chat programs, but you also have the flexibility to allow or block pop-ups from an entire Web site. DashPopUpKiller is acknowledged, fully tested software that blocks pop-up ads in IE 5.0 and above.Editor's review of DashPopUpKiller Bundled adware spoils what is otherwise a powerful and comprehensive pop-up blocker. DashPopUpKiller is compatible with Internet Explorer, Netscape, and Opera and has the ability to prevent a third-party site from hijacking your home page. Unlike many competitors, this program successfully copes with banners and Flash ads as well as with standard pop-up ads. However, some may find its peculiar performance less than desirable, as the app displays ads for a few seconds before eliminating them. You can add URLs to block or allow both manually and with hot keys, to enable audible alerts, and to rid yourself of unwanted cookies. We also appreciated the log field that lists a summary of all quashed ads. Indeed, DashPopUpKiller sounds like an excellent tool until you consider the program installs unnecessary adware on your computer. Since this application boasts a rather complete feature set for its category, some users might be willing to make that trade-off, but many others will want to keep looking.
